Cannot change username & password in TL-WR720N router

I have a problem with my TL-WR720N router. I cannot change the default username and password on it. When I try to change them to something else from the Web-based management UI, and click the "Save" button, I immediately get a username & password pop-up dialog. But if I input my new username & password, it just refuses to let me in, saying incorrect username/password.
The firmware version on it is 4.19.56 Build 141118 Rel.60082n
My laptop is Windows 7 & IE 11.
Can someone help me on this problem?
