TD-W8980 Bizarre behavior
Region : UnitedKingdom
Model : TD-W8968
Hardware Version :
Firmware Version : 0.6.0 1.7 v000e.0 Build 140919 Rel.52176n
ISP : PlusNet
Earlier this week, our dsl started dropping out hard for no apparent reason. We'd had our current ISP for nearly 4 years with nary a problem, so this was curious. Skipping all of the narrative up to the point where I replace our rather outdated ISP-provided router with the TD-W8980:
Configuration settings do not stick... sometimes. Other times they do for a number of hours or even the better part of a day. I'm having to manually reset the WAN settings multiple times since buying the router Thursday afternoon (it's Saturday evening).
[*]ONLY the 5GHz band is currently operational. The 2.4GHz is just... not there. not even visible as broadcasting, but it is configured properly for our ISP, and indicator lights show it as operational. - I've done the song and dance multiple times with our ISP to ensure that the line is sound and the service is operational - nothing amiss there.
[*]This has not fixed the internet connectivity dropping away. Multiple devices running multiple different operating systems (various flavors of android and windows) and even connecting on different bands. When the internet drops, the ISP is not reading a service interruption.
[*]This is the SECOND SODDING ROUTER we're having this problem on, so it looks like I've already thrown £55 down the sewer (the old one worked a charm until earlier this week).
Yes, I get that "more than one router, same problem = likely line fault" but I do not flipping understand why the entire 2.4GHz band has fallen out, or why it randomly is visible again for short periods of time when absolutely nobody is fiddling with the router. Any technical insight into what I might do to better diagnose the problem would be most welcome. Cheers
