Well, if you have google before than you should know that in term of hardware spec, both v2 and v3 are identical. Which also meant the size of boot sector is the same for both model, in fact most are 128KB in size.

Why is there a missing 512 bytes? I don't have the answer, I would assumed this could be just a "filler" separating the u-boot and actual firmware.

As to your last question, you worry is unnecessary given that this method has been tested by many (me included) here and elsewhere.

I don't see why not given that both hardware are basically identical. There may be a need to "downgrade" the u-boot on the v3 router to v2 before flashing to your own custom firmware.

Alsg, thank you. I have already prepared a new images for v3. The old image that I used with v2 didn't work (router didn't let me to flash it, saying the version doesn't fit). As you wrote, probably the "downgrade" of the u-boot would solve it, this I didn't try (I didn't know about it).

Is your custom built OpenWRT able to support hardware NAT? If not then the WAN-to-LAN through-put will be limited to around 300Mbps.

How can I downgrade u-boot from v3 to v2? Is there any step-by-step guide (I do not want to brick my device). Does it mean that if I upgrade FW v2 to v3 (unofficial way) then u-boot updates to v3 too? Thanks for reply.

I am considering to buy something like this USB splitter [CODE]http://www.amazon.com/Cute-USB-2-Port-Splitter-Black/dp/B00FJG5T4W[/CODE], because it is tiny. I want to attach it to my device to expand existing one USB port to two ports. My question is will it work with USB flash or 2,5" external HDD for first port and printer for second port (stock FW or OpenWRT)? Or do i need external voltage (both FW cases)?
