I have copied the number over, and over again but I can't paste it into the box. Usually it comes up automatically asking if I want to copy link from email but in this app I can't. Does anyone know how to do it or how to set up the 2-step verification without it.
I am disabled and cannot hold a pen to write number down but even if I could; it won't stay active long enough to copy it into all the separate boxes.

Hi, welcome to our community.

According to your feedback, I tried to test on my own phone. Here was what I took:

As I have outlook email box on my phone, when I saw the verification code and used hand to press the code, the page poped up sevaral options including "Copy" and I chose "Copy". Then back to Tether app, the top of my mobile phone input keypad has automatically popped up with the code, so I clikc on it using my hand and the code automatically jumpped into the separate boxes above.

So the Tether should support paste the code into the box directly. The concrete step may slightly vary from different phones.

It is also suggested to update app version to latest from Google Play or Apple Store.
