Archer C5 v1.20 locked out (cannot reset anymore)

Hi,
it's become impossible for me to access the Archer C5 v1.20 user interface. I use the TP-Link as an Access Point. I logged into the user interface and switched off the DHCP. Then I changed the Archer C5 LAN ip in order to be outside the DHCP-range from my Ubee router/modem.
Now it has become impossible for me to log in to the user interface. It also is impossible to do a hard reset on the Archer. I tried this a number of times already by pressing the reset button, switching on/off the Archer and so on. It is possible to connect to the router, but the ip-address is totally different from the number I set it to. And there is no gateway anymore. So the router does not work properly and it is not possible to connect to the internet.
What should I do?
Regards and thanks in advance, tindelton

Reset won't help?
What kinds of strange IP? 169...?
If you assign a static IP as 192.168.0.100 and subnet 255.255.255.0, can you login 192.168.0.1? Just connect the PC to one of LAN ports of C5 without the router to test.
If it won't help, it is faulty for some reason. Go back to your vendor and ask for the replacement.

1. Disconnect the cable between the Archer C5 and your main router.
2. Power on Archer C5, wait half 1 minute.
3. Press and hold the reset button for >8 seconds. Release when you see all the LEDs blinks together.
After these steps the C5 should be reset to default. You can login C5 again via 192.168.0.1. But before that, I suggest you login your main router and reconfigure it into the correct settings first. Then you can login and reconfigure the C5

Hi, thanks a bunch to you for your replies to my thread.
I tried resetting the archer numerous times using various (power on - reset button 20 secs - keep - power off - still keep pressing - 10 secs power off - power on - keep 10 secs - release - and various other sequences of those steps. All to no avail. The archer does not get a reset. Even today after having been switched off for 24 hours and connected only to my computer...
Here's a picture of my ethernet ip-config. As you can see my wifi looks healty (and it works):

Looks weird huh?
Now here's what ethernet-ip looks like when i connect my laptop to my modem/router that my ISP provided:
Looks better! Is there a way to flash or 'hard reset' the modem?

In picture 1, Wi-Fi is connected to modem/router's Wi-Fi or C5's Wi-Fi?
Can you turn off modem/router first? And then check ethernet IP and wireless IP obtained from C5.
169.254... is an invalid IP which is abnormal. If C5 assigns such a IP address in default settings, it should be faulty.

From your description the C2 seems to be bricked.
Now I tell you a hidden feature which I learned from official support: firmware recovery via tftp!! It worth a try but it is not guaranteed, and the prerequisite is that the router is updated to the latest firmware before bricked.
Check this document I get from tplink: http://1drv.ms/1av1Ema

hi radvd, thanks for your response. I don't know the firmwareversion that was on the router when I bought it (didn't change/flash it myself). Would that be a problem?
Tony Seaford: thanks. The wrong IP's and subnet are all on the C5. The healthy ones are on the Ubee... I tried connecting my laptop only to the C5 with the Ubee modem/router switched off completely. Did not make any change...
I think flashing back to healthy firmware is not the easiest thing to do, now is it?

Indeed it is not that easy to unbrick the router.
Maybe you'd better contact the shop and tell them the router no longer works somehow, they should offer replacement for you as long as your router is under warranty.

Although an old post, it is worth pointing out that the issue here was the wifi, it is a microsoft one issuing the 169 address.
If you have a similar problem just disable wifi either with FN key or by disabling in Network and Sharing centre, then Adapters. Once disabled you will be able to access your router on the address shown as 192.168.178.1 in your image (for most people it would be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 for later models.
