Model: Deco X50-Outdoor
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.8 Build 20240914 Rel. 35513

Hi. I just bought a Deco X50-outdoor to place near our gate to improve the Wi-Fi connection of my tplink tapo D235 doorbell.

The power cable is too short for the deco x50 to be mounted on a pole. I was thinking of adding a poe+ switch to remedy this. I would also like a wired connection for my x50 and I'm not sure how I'd do this.

My questions are:

1. What model of tplink poe+ switch should I buy?

2. Does the poe+ switch need to be connected to my main deco (XE75)?

3. For an Ethernet backhaul, can i connect my x50 to the nearest XE75 via Ethernet cable?

Any suggestions that would help me do these are most welcome.

Thanks for those who'll help. Btw, I am not a very techy person but I know I can do this with your guidance.

Hi, welcome to the community.

if Deco X50-outdoor is the only POE device, I think you can consider using a POE injector, such as TL-POE160S.

Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP thanks so much for the info. Can I run another Ethernet cable from the poe to my deco xe75 as wired backhaul for the x50-outdoor?

Yes, that would work well.

Best regards.

@David-TP thanks again. I just want to be sure that I understand this correctly before I buy the injector and Ethernet cable.

Here's my current network map. The xe75 (veranda) is connected via wifi to my main deco (bedroom). For wired backhaul for my front yard x50-outdoor, I would connect the poe injector to both the veranda xe75 and front yard x50-outdoor, right?

Thanks so much.

Hi, sorry for the inconvenience.

It works when connecting the Deco X50-outdoor to the nearest satellite Deco, "Veranda" XE75, for your case via an Ethernet cable.

But it would be much better to run the cable from the main Deco directly, as the network stability and bandwidth of Deco X50-outdoor will be greatly improved.

Thank you very much.

Best regards.
