I am using a TL-WA890EA with an NAS and a bunch of AV equipment like UPNP renderers. The other end is a TL-WDR4300 router.

I'm wondering, when the UPNP renderer "talks" with the NAS, is the data directly routed via the 890, which kind of acts as a switch, or does it go indirectly from NAS to (wired) 890 to (wireless) 4300 to (wireless) 890 to (wired) renderer? I suppose if it is the latter case, it would make things quite a bit slower, right? So, I am hoping that it is earlier case.

Thanks.

Right as in directly via 890, or indirectly back and forth via wifi?

Thanks.

As long as UPNP renderers and the NAS is in the same subnet, such as 192.168.0.x/255.255.255.0, they talk directly to each other, no requirements for routing. In your scenario, the UPNP renderers and the NAS talk via the TL-WA890EA. No need to go through the TL-WDR4300.

The 890EA acts just like a switch.

Thanks. No wonder response time seems slightly speedier now.
