X55 Open-VPN-Server nicht erreichbar

Sunday
Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.6.1

I would like to be able to access my Home-X55 from outside via VPN.
My Deco sits directly behind the cable modem (bridge) as a router.
Public IP.
Ping from outside is possible after I activated this in the Deco.

I activated the Open VPN server and allowed access from the home network and from the Internet.
Restart Deco.

But I can't access the VPN server from outside.
I checked whether the configured port 1194 is open from the outside, but it is not!
Why is that?
What else could be the reason for the VPN server not being accessible from outside?

Original Deutsch:

Hi, welcome to the community.

If the IPV4 address on Deco is a public IP, there is no need to open ports on Deco anymore.

Could you please help me check whether the IPV4 address on Deco is the same as your IP address here:https://whatismyipaddress.com/

Wait for your reply and best regards.

@David-TP,  ich habe Ihnen direkt geantwortet. Der Port ist nach wie vor geschlossen.

Hi, Thanks for the message.

I noticed you mentioned that "the goal is to establish a client connection to my Deco with an LTE router".

I remember that Deco doesn't support site-to-site VPN connections. So I was wondering, if we only set up an OpenVPN connection on the laptop via the OpenVPN Connect APP, will the PC connect to Deco successfully?

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi, thanks for the tip!

1. i used a separate PC with an internet connection and installed the Open VPN app. The external access to the VPN server of the DECO worked!

2. nevertheless, the port 1194 used is not open. So VPN access works without an open port?

3. i was not aware that the VPN server access can only be used for a single device? Where is this written?
That would be stupid, because I want to connect a remote network-enabled single device to the DECO via an LTE router (with VPN client) to be able to access it.
(It doesn't work the other way around because I can't get a public IP with the LTE router. This would only be possible with considerable effort and cost).

4. what difference does it make for the DECO, whether a single device or a router connects to an Open VPN application?

Lots of questions...

Lots of regards

Hi, Port forwarding is usually required when the VPN server is behind a NAT. As Deco has a public IP address and is the only NAT device here, I don't think we need to open port 1194 anymore.

It hasn't been written anymore that Deco only supports site-to-site VPN connection.

I've noticed it on our DSL gateway, but I'm not sure whether it is due to hardware/chipset limitations, and Deco doesn't support it yet.

Thank you very much and best regards.

Hello David,

thanks!

* How can I get a reliable information if or when the Deco X55 supports a VPN connection to a site/router?

* Is the "site problem" only specific to Open-VPN?
Does it possibly work with e.g. Wireguard or PPTP?

Best regards.

Hello David,

can you say something more about my questions?

In this thread, the Deco is shown as a VPN server, which also has a client as a router. This is exactly what I want to do:
https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/614318

Is this possible or not?

Best regards
Christian
