TD-W8970 problem
Region : UnitedKingdom
Model : TD-W8970
Hardware Version : V3
Firmware Version : 140613
ISP : Plusnet
Hi
I have a problem with this router (v1 hardware with the latest 140613 firmware) on a slow (1mb) ADSL connection. Intermittently the connection has an outage that usually clears itself after a few minutes. Also speed seems to reduce and can often be improved by rebooting.
My ISP says this:
Are you using a TP Link router? I have noted this issue on many online forums in the past.
The TPLink NCSI protocol and its firewall are time stamp based. If your routers have an invalid time and date this will cause internet connectivity to fail. It will also fail if the time in the router does not match your PC date and time. Hence you can tell the TPLink to get the time from the PC.
Its always best to use the internal DNS on each PC.
I have now changed so that both the router and my PC use a specified DNS (8.8.8.8) but still get intermittent problems.
When there is an outage, tracert gives this sort of result:
C:WINDOWSsystem32>tracert 8.8.8.8
Tracing route to google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]
over a maximum of 30 hops:
1 5 ms 5 ms 2 ms 192.168.1.253
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * * Request timed out.
4 * * * Request timed out.
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 * * * Request timed out.
7 798 ms 81 ms 42 ms 216.239.47.53
8 574 ms 975 ms 1290 ms google-public-dns-a.google.com [8.8.8.8]
Again, the ISP says this is a problem with my router.
Is my ISP right - does this model have a problem ?
