Bandwidth throttled to 90mbs every day
Bandwidth throttled to 90mbs every day
I have 2 X50s that I've had for a couple of years and they were brilliant for over 18 months... but lately, every morning I get up, I can only get 90mbs download and about 3mbs upload.
I normally get 960/100.
This happens on all my devices (Windows, osx and iOS) so it's not a device thing.
if I reboot the Decos, it goes back to 960/100.
if I connect to my main routers wifi it's at full speed too (before rebooting the Decos)... so the incoming speed is fine.
ive seen lots of other posts about similar thing happening to others... so its got to be problem with an update we received at some point as it worked fine for 18 months and nothing else has changed on my setup.
Has anyone got any suggestions on what's happening and how to stop it happening please?

Hi David
I have been running the main deco in Wireless Router mode since I bough them a couple of years ago... but when the problems started I noticed this setting so changed it to Access point mode as I this seemed to make more sense as it was just duplicating the features of my ISP router... but the problem has remained the same since changing it.
I can't find the QoS setting - please can you show me where it is - is it in the app or the web interface settings? I'm guessing it's not visible as I have it in Access Point mode where QoS is turned off anyway.
Note that since connecting the main X50 to the ISP router directly with a network cable (rather than going via my switch that everything else is also connected to), the main X50 seems to be behaving better now and I haven't had to reboot it since Friday. The secondary one however is still playing up in the same way.
The secondary one is actually also connected to the ISP router by a direct cable... this is one I had fitted that goes up into the loft, across the house, down again and has a network socket in the wall in another room at the other end of the house - about 30m run in total. The secondary X50 is then plugges into this socket with a new, very high quality network cable. I tested this setup on my laptop and got excellent speeds from it when I set it up.
Many thanks
Adam

Hi Adam, Thanks for the update.
You are right that Deco in Access Point mode doesn't support QoS, so it is invisible on the Deco APP.
Would there be any chance that you could connect the secondary Deco X50 directly behind the main Deco X50, such as:
ISP router----main Deco X50-----------------<30m>-------------seconday Deco X50
If the speed still dropped to 100m/s randomtly, I think a replacement would help if the device is still under warranty.
Did you receive my reply to #TKID250442760? If yes, you can update the email with the SN number on the main Deco/bottom product label and a copy of the purchasing receipt.
Wait for your reply.
Best regards.

Hi David
I changed the cable as described but this seemed to cause futher problems with both devices going Red several times and requiring a hard reset to make them work again... so I've put it back to how it was.
Over the weekend the main Deco became limited again a few times so the previous changes haven't actually resolved it.
What's frustrating is that they have worked so well until recently - and nothing has changed physically with my setup... I guess Virgin could have updated the Router firmware and caused this problem but I know there have been several Deco firmware updates so it could have been one of these updates too... or a combination of both.
I've replied to your emai but it's a Hub 4 that I have. I will email you the S/N and Purchase Invoice but I think they're out of warranty now.
Regards
Adam
