Wifi Router USB Sharing ( Not all files are seen on windows smb? ) Not a Fault!
Popped a 512GB NVME2 in a usb adapter and attached it to the USB port on the router.
Lightening fast transmission speeds and no issue with the MINIDLNA seeing and coping with the drive.
After uploading a few thousand gigs, i decided i would go look and see if i could view all the files and low and behold i could not. I faffed on trying to sort the directory's and had to make sure the file permissions where set to read for all. once i did that I could see all the music, video and pictures but not anything else.
In the past I have always been able to see all the files from all my servers but this time it dawned on me that the only issue I had was just file permissions. The MINIDLNA is designed to read only media like movies, audio and pictures and that the ftp was the workhorse for storageand backup and needed to be on all the time.
Through my own stupidity I spent the best part of half a day faffing about with somthing that was working perfectly lol. I was so used to be able to see files previously through windows and my other smb storage that I had forgotten its real purpose and thats for media.
So the moral of my story is don't expect somthing to work the same way as it was not intended to do in the first place and remember its a media server not a file server or webdav.
I hope my experience helps someone avoid the same mistake i did especially if your new to using this technology.
all the best to you all,
Paul
