Hi,
This is my first post on this forum and I must admit straight up that as far as VPN is concerned, I'm a novice and learning as I go.
We run a 'micro' graphic design business with two offices and need to operate efficiently from both locations. We have windows 7 based PCs and use 'Freenas' UNIX based NAS fileservers at both sites.
The plan was to have the NAS at both locations and to sync our data between the two using router based IPSEC VPN. The reason for the two file servers is that we are not always blessed with good internet speeds so an effective 'mirror' at both sites seemed a good idea at the time. We have not set up Domain(s) / internet Host(s), rather two similar LANs at each site. We use the same ISP (iinet) at both sites. Should the VPN still work?
To set up the VPN, I proceeded by purchasing two TD-W8960N routers and ensuring that each location has a static IP. I then followed the straightforward instructions in the FAQ for setting up an IPSEC VPN between two TD-W8960N routers, but I'm not having much luck. I can see the router at the remote site but not the file server or computers on the remote LAN. I was under the impression, that I would be able to see the remote LAN in addition to the local one.
Sorry if it is silly question, but do I need to have Internet Servers at both ends of the VPN for it to work? (Although the FAQ was good, I haven't seen a comprehensive requirements list or checklist for setting up an IPSEC VPN).
Cheers,
Frank
