FTTP connection
FTTP connection

I want to connect an Archer BE550 router direct to the NBN box using PPPoE.
I think I should be able to. TPG is the ISP.
can this be done? If so what are the settings

The Archer BE550 was intended to replace an existing router (Technicolor TG-789).
"If the internet LED is Orange/Red on the router:" - hmm, the Archer BE550 does not have coloured LED indicators, only white. They either flash or are static and they are either in a single/full line or appear as an exclamation mark ! - this makes me wonder about the accuracy and relevance of all the other information posted in this thread.
PC was connected as part of an isolation test - the internet is working fine. This was further confirmed through testing by the ISP helpdesk.
A variety of power sequencing was attempted soft, hard resets, waiting for different timeframes, 10 seconds - 2 minutes - >10 minutes,
Logging into the BE550 was possible via the TPLink Tether App, as well as via browser web UI via http://tplinkwifi.net and 192.168.0.1, both Quick Setups and manual step-by-step was attempted - numerous times to ensure no steps/information was skipped or mistyped during entry.
The vendor agreed that the device was faulty.
One vendor service representative also mentioned in passing, perhaps not appropriately (if he wants to sell more and keep his job!) that there had been repeated issues experienced by other customers with the BE550 connected to NBN via PPPoE.
I have since returned my router and obtained a refund.
My initial comment was more to reassure the OP that, in all likelihood, the problem is not with him or his ISP, but the hardware as I also, as mentioned am with the same ISP and the BE550 did not work.
Cheers
A.

@ag123 so you changed from an FTTN (ADSL2) connection to an FTTP (Ethernet) connection, right?
If it's some how still ADSL2 it will definitely not work with the BE550, you would need to keep the TG-789 and put it in bridge mode (a big pain IIRC).
So is the TPG NBN connection different than everone elses?
Although I don't see how because I thought the infrastructure was controled NBN corp. not the ISPs.

Hi @ag123,
Thank you for your reply.
If possible, I would like to confirm, did you buy your router from TPG? Or did you buy it yourself in a store?
Is your old router connected to the ISP device via Ethernet cable? As raven-au mentioned, Archer BE550 does not support DSL connection. If the old router is connected to the ISP device via DSL cable, then Archer BE550 does not meet your needs. You can consider a DSL modem router.
It is a pity that Archer BE550 did not meet your needs in the end, but I still hope that you can find a suitable router to put into use.

No. That is not correct.
As I mentioned I have a FTTP NBN connection.
It has only ever been FTTP, my house is 3 years old, NBN installed the local infrastructure as part of the estate development along with other utility providers.
The TG-789 router supports either ethernet connection or ADSL via a POTS line. A simple Google search can verify this.

The BE-550 was purchased from a retailer (let's leave them out of the discussion without naming them). That is why I was able to return it for a refund.
The TG-789 is an inexpensive (complimentary) unit provided by the ISP.
I never said anything about a DSL connection. Someone else has assumed that due to either a mistake or misunderstanding of the capabilities of the TG-789.

Thanks@ag123,
We mainly want to know if there is a batch problem, but now you have returned the product, we cannot further troubleshoot.
Thank you for your feedback and efforts, although you were not able to successfully use Archer BE550 in the end. I hope you can find a router that meets your needs. I also look forward to our future cooperation.
Good luck~!

That would be me.
My mistake, even after having a TG-789 (originally from iiNet) for many years I never noticed that the red Ethernet port was in fact a WAN port.
Oops!
@Joseph-TP I recommend at least giving software engineering a heads up regarding this thread for consideration since it does sound like the BE550 (and perhaps other similar models) does have some sort of odd problem with what is one of the largest Australian ISPs and so could cause quite a bit support overhead over time.

Thanks @raven-au,
Your suggestion is indeed very reasonable. I will consult other departments to find out if there are similar cases and conduct centralized analysis.
Thank you again for your support~!
