FTTP connection
FTTP connection

I want to connect an Archer BE550 router direct to the NBN box using PPPoE.
I think I should be able to. TPG is the ISP.
can this be done? If so what are the settings

Hi @500W,
PPPoE username and password are typically provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP), acting as your internet access credentials.
Sometimes, ISPs include the PPPoE username and password in emails or setup instructions. Please check any physical or digital documentation you received from your ISP when setting up your internet connection.
If you can't find them, please contact your ISP directly, they can provide the correct login credentials.

@500W I don't know if the NBN boxes are all the same or if they have the same requirements.
I also don't know if PPPoE can be used as my NBN FTTP connection uses Dynamic IP (IIUC basically DHCP).
But, as long as the NBN box provides an Ethernet connection (mine does), you should be able to since Dynamic IP must be able send broadcasts to a DHCP server so there must be a fairly good level of communication there.

Yes.
As I said, The BE550 does not, will not, connect with the NBN FTTP modem.

@ag123 so this is a TPG FTTP connection in Austraalia right?
If so then you also connected the ethernet cable from the router to the UNI-D1 port right?
And it doesn't work?

The FTTP box is not a modem, it's essentially a media converter from fiber optic cable to ethernet.

@ag123 wow, that's really weird.
Even TPG's own documentation says that's how to do it.
Has it ever worked with any hardware, if so what was it and how was it setup?
While I don't use PPPoE on my nbn connection I have noticed I had a problem connecting when I change equipent (router) and I had to either turn the nbn box off and back on and wait the 10 or so minutes for it to re-connect or reboot the router or re-apply the internet setup a few times for it to come back to life. I thought it might be MAC some sort of MAC address requirement but haven't verified that.

Hi@ag123,
If you cannot access internet after you enter the network information (including username, password, VLAN ID). Please try a different router for a comparison.
If the internet LED is Orange/Red on the router:
1. Identify whether your router or ISP is the problem by connecting your PC directly to the ISP device (like NBN box) to check the internet access. If the Internet is not working, contact your ISP.
2. Turn off the NBN box and the Router, then power on the Router, turn on the NBN box once the router is fully powered on.
3. Log in to the web UI via http://tplinkwifi.net and follow the Quick Setup to set it up.
4. Please go to Advanced > Network > Internet > Mac Clone to clone the MAC address of your PC. Please follow the FAQ: How do I configure MAC Address Clone on my TP-Link Archer Router?
It is recommended that you can contact local support for quick reply.
