Firmware Version : Archer C7_v2_140911

ISP : Cyta (Greece)

Hi all!

I got my Archer C7 to upgrade my SOHO LAN (wired and wireless) and eventually get rid of the cheap of the routing and wireless "capabilities" of the cheap ADSL2+ modem/router (ZTE ZXV10 H201L) supplied by my ISP. As per my ISP's instructions:

1) Called them to "return my their box (ZTE ZXV10 H201L) into bridge mode". I aksed them what is this "bridge mode" and they told me that this will put their box into a mode where (a) it will provide ADSL synchronization, (2) voice telephony and (3) give the ability to my router establish PPoE by entering into it my Internet userid/password.

2) Then they asked me to connect my router's (Archer C7) WAN port to their box port "LAN 1" and in the WAN part of it select PPoE and give my userid/password.

This is exactly what I did but on the Archer's WAN page I only get "Connecting..." without ever getting a WAN and therefore Internet connection. I the system log I noticed that the only ERROR I get is a line that states " PPP ERROR Timeout waiting for PADO packets" I really have no idea what that is :(

I'm pretty sure this is something that has to do with my ISP's configuration, either on their network or the configuration of their box itself. Unfortunately, they are not able to help me as the router is on my own part of the connection.

Does anyone have any ideas, tips to help me with this?

Thank you all
Dimitrios

ISP connection type should be PPPoE or PPPoA? If the latter, then it is totally run. PPPoA is not supported on C7.

Hi Ada and thanks for the reply!

My ISP supports PPPoE and this what I have in Archer C7. After a lot of testing and actually 'hacking' their ZTE modem (so as to be able to manage WAN connection management) I was able to make things work. I am not sure if this is the right way of setting this up, but at least my Archer C7 gets an Internet IP :)

What I did was that in addition to the 'bridge' connection in their modem, I created something called "PPPoE pass-through". I created a profile like the one in the screenshot; i.e. without a userid, without a password, with NAT disabled, without autoconnect etc. By the time I saved that profile in their modem, my Archer C7 got an Internet IP!!!

I have no idea why this is working and why my ISP's techies did not do that but I would be really interested to know. So I would really appreciate if anyone could clear up the clouds here ;)

Thanks
Dimitrios
