Only allow remote administration

Region : Denmark
Model : Archer C7
Hardware Version : Not Clear
Firmware Version :
ISP :
I would like my C7 to administered externally (from other subnets than the router itself), but not local (from its on subnet).
Under "Remote management" I have entered 255.255.255.255 - but it seems that I can only administer it, when I am on the same subnet.
I think that the problem might be that I cannot enter its default gateway - can't figure out where to enter this...(?)
Regards, Lars.

Typing in 255.255.255.255, you can connect to the router remotely from anywhere via Internet.
Are you testing with WAN IP? Is is a public IP?

No. I am only using the archer C7 as an access point. The Archer is on the LAN side connected to a firewall DMZ as the only thing on this subnet. Nothing on the WAN side.
So what I can read for you is that it is not possible to aceess the management part on the Archer C7 on the LAN when coming from a different network than the Archers LAN network?
Regards, Lars.

WAN IP is a public one on the root network?
Since it is working as an AP, remote management settings won't work I think. Try the following method.
1. Open port 80 on the root network for C7's LAN IP.
2. On C7's webpage, set its default gateway to be your router's IP.
3. Use http://WAN IP:80 to access it remotely.

Sorry for the late reply.
WAN IP is not used
Port 80 is open on LAN
Can't set default gateway as this is only possible on WAN - and I can't set up the same subnet on the WAN as on the LAN.
I just want to be able to access the router on the LAN from any network.
No can't do?
Regards, Lars.

“Can't set default gateway as this is only possible on WAN ”
How did you test and find it out? On DHCP settings page, we can do that, right?

Ah... on the DHCP page. Yes. But this is for handing out IP's for connected clients. This is BTW disabled as my firewall is doing the DHCP and the C7 is just pasing on the requests.
But just now, I tested setting the default gateway here but still after a reboot, I am still not able to access the C7 webinterface from anywhere else than the same subnet as the C7 is sitting on.
You ask how I tested it?
I am sitting on one subnet 172.17.1.x accessing the C7 (172.18.2.2) through different subnets on my firewall. Using tcpdump I can check that the packages are pasing through the firewalls NICs to the C7.
So this is definately a C7 issue.
On "Network", "LAN", I am only able to set:
MAC Address:
IP Address:
Subnet Mask:
IGMP Proxy:
No def. gateway to set here. I guess this is the problem... or the C7 is simply just only allowing accees to 172.18.2.2 from 172.18.2.x
"All the PCs on the LAN are allowed to access the Router's Web-Based Utility" has been set
"Remote Management IP Address:" has been set to 255.255.255.255
Regards, Lars.

I can see one problem, WAN IP address is private.

No - WAN port is not used - as I wrote, I am not using the C7 as a router facing the internet - I am using it as an access point. Maybe this simplified chart will clarify it:
Laptop 172.18.2.x on WiFi can access the C7 WEBadmin
Workstation 172.17.1.x cannot.
Routes an rules on the firewall are set correctly - problem is on C7
Anyone can share any comments on this?
Regards, Lars.

If I am NAT'ing 172.17.1.x to 172.18.2.1, I am able to access the webadmin, I can live with that solution.
