Slow Wireguard Client throughput on X50

Hi,
I have set up my X50 Deco as a Wireguard client, but I am getting pretty slow speeds. My Internet connection is 360Mbps, which clients can max out when not using the Wireguard VPN. Once I set them to use the VPN though, the throughput drops to approx 120Mbps, and down to 10-20Mbps if I use OpenVPN.
I have tried two different VPN providers, and both produce the same result.
Is there any reason for this as I was expecting to be able to still max out my connection when using Wireguard.
Thanks.

Hi, there still isn't any confirmed news about the official firmware for Deco S4 that supports Connection Preference. But you can install the beta firmware here for Deco S4, which has added this feature: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/651248
From what I learnt from the engineer: Usually, the expected WireGuard VPN speed is about 5-6 times the OpenVPN connection speed.
A higher model does help. For WiFi 7 models, the tested OpenVPN connection could be over 100mbps. For Deco X90/X95, it would be about 50mbps.
Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
There is a new firmware 1.6.4 for Deco X50-V1. Could you please help me test whether it made any difference:

And what are the two WireGuard VPN servers you have tested?
Usually, the expected WireGuard VPN speed is about 5-6 times the OpenVPN connection speed. 20M/s is an expected speed for the OpenVPN connection on Deco X50.
As the router CPU cannot process VPN encryption as quickly as a computer functioning as a VPN client, when an encrypted tunnel is established between the router and the VPN provider, it adds an extra layer of encryption and routing, leading to decreased bandwidth and increased latency, resulting in a drop in performance.
Best regards.

Thanks for the update, I will try the firmware later today and report back!
In answer to your other questions, I have a QNAP NAS device that is running a Wireguard VPN client, and when this connects out not as a Deco VPN client, it gets the full 360Mbps speed. This drops to back to 120Mbps approx, if I remove the client connection from the NAS and then include it as a Deco Wireguard client.
Ideally I want to remove the need for individual Wireguard clients on my network and use the Deco as Wireguard VPN and include the relavant devices.
In terms of providers, I have tried Windscribe via file import and IP Vanish via the built in configuration on the Deco. IPVanish is possibly 10Mbps faster than Windscribe, both are full paid accounts.
Thanks

@David-TP Apologies for the late reply!
I did try the firmware you suggested and there was maybe a 5Mpbs increase, but for me it came with packet loss on certain devices so I have gone back to the official latest firmware.
I was also, and still unable to get 120Mbps through Wireguard, so I think I must have posted that in error initially. The most throughput I can get is approx 80-90Mbps. However for my particular applicaiton, this is sufficient.
Can you advise though, when supported, is it expected that higher spec Deco's would have higher VPN client throughput than the X50?
And also, any news on when client connection preference will be coming for S4 V2.0 Deco?
Thanks,
Nathan.

Thanks David,
I will look to a new Deco as the main device if I need more than 100Mbps via Wireguard!
Also, I did try the beta firmware for the S4, but this only has Deco Connection Preference, but not client. I will see if any further firmwares are realesed with this feature for my S4.
Thank you again for your help.
Nathan.
