Why Deco M4R v2 can't install Beta Firmware 1.7.0?
Hi, Tplink!
Hi it's me again, I once installed beta firmware 1.7.0 to my m4r v2 and it didn't work. It said that the firmware was incorrect, I tried installing it both from webUI and firmware recovery mode. Both failed. But I see from this forum there are some who have the same hardware as me M4R V2, they managed to install beta firmware 1.7.0 why can't mine?
Note i have 4 deco, E4 v1 3 pcs, M4 v2 (1.6.5 firmware) 1 pcs. Since the E4 had the new 1.7.0 update and can do connection preference, thats why i want my m4 can do the same..

@ryg You can use the Deco M4 as a (Main) unit and then try to install it

Hi,
Sorry, your steps are confusing. I am not sure whether you reconfigured M4 as main Deco or not. You unplugged other Deco E4s but it seemed that you did not set them as satellite Decos.
"i did before bro.... before i set the M4 as the main deco i factory reset it...and i only turn on my M4 as i upgrading...all the e4 is unpluged...
it said the same wrong firmware..."
It is suggested to try to set M4 as main Deco following our suggestions below:
1. Please set the M4 as main Deco following Case 1 in the guide: How to replace the main Deco with another Deco
2. After M4 works as main Deco and all E4s work as satellite Deco properly, unplug the power adapters of other 3 Deco E4 temporarily.
3. Then try to upgrade beta firmware again in the thread via the web UI.
Note: How to update the firmware via web UI. (Please do not try firmware recovery.)
If it works, please replug your Deco E4s to recover all connections.
Thank you and best regards.

@Marvin_S Marvin i did that earlier when you told me to do the STEP at the first place... factory reset the M4, then set the M4 as the main deco, factory reset the E4 then set as satelite (wiches works perfectly)... then unpluged All The E4 then upgrade the M4 alone via webUI dan Method 2....and the result is FAILED....
Note : My M4 had a litte bit problem with the 5ghz signal not brodcasting only the 2.4ghz thats why the M4 al this time i set it be the satelite deco not the main....here in this thread

Hi, Thanks for your time and patience.
I notice you are from Indonesia, and Deco sold in ID would prefer band 4 over 5GHz, which is different from the general EU/US version that 5GHz mainly uses band 1.
The 1.7.0 beta was previously based on the general EU/US versions, so it hasn't included this region-based modification.
In this way, when Deco M4, whose hardware is coded as ID or BD(Bangladesh), tried to install the 1.7.0 beta, it couldn't find the suitable region code from the 1.7.0 beta firmware, which might cause the upgrade failure.
The official 1.7.0 version would be like the official 1.6.5 and include all the supported region codes. It is recommended to wait for the release of the official version.
Sorry for the inconvenience and best regards.

The 1.7.0 update feature connection preference... that is very crusial for us, so we can set wich to connect to between deco.... so the network can set optimal....
oh 1 more thing.... can you give new feature in the future update for all deco so we can set wifi channel manually?
Since @David-TP told me about that REGION thing... I don't think I need to try again to set this up.. i just wait for the official 1.7.0 update....please hurryy....

Hi, I can't say for sure when the official 1.7.0 will be released, but if there is any further news, I will update here as soon as possible.
There are two parts of the "Connection Preference": setting preferred uplink Deco for satellite Deco units( we often called this "Signal Source") and setting preferred wireless bands and connected Deco for mobile devices.
For the first one, the satellite Deco E4 with 1.7.0 already supports this feature, and you should be able to set the preferred signal source for each satellite E4.
While the latter requires the support of both main Deco and satellite Decos.
As for setting the Wi-Fi channels, it would take even much longer. So far, only the WiFi 7 Deco models have been introduced with this feature. I can't predict when it will be finally rolled out to Deco M4/E4.
Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP Yes that SIGNAL SOURCE thing is very important....thats why i need the M4 can do the same as E4 now.... cause the M4 sometimes connect to the farther deco instead of the near one..... the E4 since the update running very very well....only the M4 still like sh*t...
For wifi channel, yes please get it done....i guess its simple task to do since regular router can do channel swapping...deco should be easy i guess....

@ryg i think u can install the Bangladesh beta firmware first which is so old 2022 or 2023 firmware then your M4 will provide you 5 GHz WiFi connection and then you can install the 1.6.5 stable firmware or 1.7.0 beta firmware.
