Archer AX53 settings with PPPoE connection

Fiber connection using ISP ONT.
Been having random small audio dropouts streaming Netflix since installing the router.
the streamer is using using gigabit connection, so not Wireless related. speed test is always over 500/500
I noticed with "Get DNS dynamically from ISP" the router was still used as DNS server until I entered the ISPs DNS into Network/DHCP (Optional)
At least that is what was reported with this test. I was able to get other DNS servers to work using DHCP Optional DNS, but for the sake of testing using ISP DNS servers.
Any other settings I can experiment with like MTU, or maybe Firewall settings?
Everything is default except WPS, Easy mesh and UPnP are off.

Hi @mrtim,
For your issue, please try the following suggestions:
- Wired direct connection test: Use a CAT5E or higher cable to connect directly to the ISP modem to verify whether the router is causing the problem.
- Play Netflix on different devices using different networks for comparison, such as playing Netflix on a mobile phone using mobile data.
- Change DNS to public DNS: 8.8.8.8 for primary and 1.1.1.1 How to Change the DNS servers
- Check QoS settings, How to turn off the QoS feature on TP-Link Router
- Use Wi-Fi Analyzer to scan surrounding channel occupancy and select appropriate channels and channel widths for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz:Changing Channel and Channel Width on a TP-Link Router (new logo)
Please change 2.4G channel width to 40MHZ, 5G channel width to 80MHZ or 160MHZ. For 5GHz, we recommend you use channel 149-165;For 2.4GHz, channels 1, 6 and 11 are generally best.

I did not think I could connect directly to the ONT device and login is PPPoE to ISP, it's a router at the ISP (no NAT it looks like) I can try that.
all my cables are Cat6, the streamer is not Wireless, but I have highest AX 160 setting and my highest channel is 124 (DFS)?
I never used the HomeShield, so I would think QoS is not enabled.
Thank you for this

Hi @mrtim,
It is still recommended that you use another router for testing to rule out the possibility of audio loss caused by network restrictions on the ISP side.
In addition, did you change DNS for a try?

not following this, I was told to plug into the ONT directly, but this is PPPoE connection that needs the router to make the connection as far as I know.
ISP network restictions? I changed DNS to Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
Yes, I ordered another router to try, should arrive in a couple days.
only thing I can say is I had to enter the DNS into DHCP (Optional) settings to get them to work at all. I wish I could understand this.
I did a factory reset on my streamer and TV, it's better, still getting audio cutouts. may not even be the router, was just curious about some of the settings that I originally asked about.
speedtest on streamer is over 600/600, Netflix says 287Mbps down.
why is channel 128 the highest channel? Streamer is using Ethernet though.

I did a factory reset on the router and has been no issues since.
Still wonder why channel 128 (DFS) is the highest channel?
EDIT: not as bad, still some audio dropouts. I don't think it's the router, but might be some sort of setting. new router arrives soon..

Hi@mrtim,
If your internet connection type doesn't need a VLAN ID, you can still use a PC for a testing. How to set up a PPPoE connection on Windows 8&10?
Of the UNII-2/UNII-2e bands that require DFS, 128 may be the highest channel available for your region or device compatibility.

Yes, I can configre windows to login to PPPoE, but the streamer is what needs the connection.
I am totally lost on the DFS channel thing. Looks like 128 (DFS) is the highest on my router here.

Hi @mrtim,
In this case, you still need another router for comparison to locate the problem.
If there is any update, feel free to reply here.
