Model: Deco X50 - PoE
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: Unknown. Can’t connect

My partner has two deco X50 units having had a good old copper based broadband, so I'm now trying to connect them to the new fibre broadband. I reset one Deco by putting a paper clip into the reset hole and waited for it to start flashing blue, but I was unable to set it up because I hadn't deleted it from the Deco app beforehand. If I asked the Deco app to delete it, it can't do so because it can't connect to it (because I've reset it)! I've tried plugging it into the EE router, so I can gain access, but the app won't do that, because it sees the unit as already being on a network, but can't find it of course. I assume that deleting the app from the phone and reinstalling it would delete all the settings and I'd be starting with a clean slate, but I'm reluctant to do that until I get reassurance that that is the right thing to do.

Any suggestions would be very much welcome.

Thanks!

"I have heard that turning the BT Openreach PON box off and on again, then plugging it into the deco will result in it providing a new IP address and set up should then be possible. Do you know if this is true or not?"

I think It depends. If the BT PON service uses a PPPoE internet connection, restarting the PON box will not refresh the internet IP address. If it uses Dynamic IP, the internet IP might change after restating the PON Box.

Later if you can't get Deco online, you can refer to the suggestions here:Unable to connect to the Internet

Wait for your reply and best regards.

I have tried reconnecting to the Deco by plugging it into the EE router, but it always failed presumably because the app thought it was already on a network.

I had tried deleting the network from the app numerous times, but it always said it couldn't connect to the network (because I had reset the Deco before hand! I have recently heard from my partner that the network is no longer showing up on the app, so I think it might have sorted itself out, but I won't know for sure until I get there.

I have heard that turning the BT Openreach PON box off and on again, then plugging it into the deco will result in it providing a new IP address and set up should then be possible. Do you know if this is true or not?

Thanks.
