OK I have seen several similar posts but none so far hitting the spot exactly. It is a bit of a long post but please do persevere.

Here is a weird and intriguing situation. I have a WA901ND acting in Access Point mode. Today, my Windows machines, which had been happily connecting to the Wireless Access Point (WA901ND) for weeks, suddenly all decided not to play nicely anymore. They announced that the security settings they had did not match the requirements of the network. I had not changed anything so I did the usual Turn-it-off-and-on-again... No improvement.

I then tried to connect a couple of Linux machines to it and they initially connected but then when I re-connected them, again - they announced no connection possible and further more put up the standard request for a network key. Despite many attempts I could not enter our 22 char network key. Whilst doing this, I did notice that it (the Linux network key request dialogue box) was limiting the valid number of characters to 32 and only making the continue button available when either 6 or 13 characters had been entered. Not much use for my 22 character WPA2 key but..."Ah ha," I thought, "this looks like WEP characteristics to me." I knew I had not set WEP as option, so I went into the network editor and forced my laptop to connect using the real 22 character WPA2 key and it did achieve a connection (Just to repeat that is a WPA2 connection which I forced in the wireless network manual set-up editor)

So now I was connected and confused. I checked the WA901ND web interface not knowing whether I would find it set to WEP or WPA2. It was actually showing my original settings of WPA/WPA2 personal as being the chosen encryption model.

OK.... So why do all my machines insist on trying to connect to it using WEP?....?.... Nope, I cant see why either. The only logical explanation I can guess at is that the access point is broadcasting that it uses WEP but is actually using WPA2. Weird and unfortunately also very annoying too?!

I have already re-blown the firmware but that did not improve things. So for the brave and bold techies out there who line new and interesting things, this is a fresh and fun challenge for you. But on a more personal note this is killing my head and, I'd really appreciate some help on this.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

JB
