Model: Deco BE65-5G
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Deco BE65-5G(EU)_V1_1.0.5 Build 20240904

I have the exact same problem with the BE65-5G router as decribed here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/736386 – it keeps turning red and losing the network. The only fix is to set the BE65-5G to "4G only." External antennas are connected, and the signal is excellent....

I also think that the information provided by German 5G providers is sometimes outdated or incorrect. For example, O2 is still listed as E-Plus, and you have to enter the APN settings manually.

This is probably also the reason for the occasionally very unstable internet connection with noticeable interruptions when switching between cells — despite good connection parameters (RSRP: -75 to -85 dBm / RSRQ: -6 dB to -7 dB / SNR: +9 dB to +22 dB).

In 5G mode, the BG65-5G regularly loses connection completely during cell switches and shows a red light. In 4G mode, at least the connection is maintained (with a short interruption) during the rare cell switches without needing a restart.

For such an expensive device, I find this very disappointing, especially since everything else about this router is almost perfect.

...I hope that this will be fixed with an upcoming firmware update soon...

Jack

Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.

May I know who your SIM carrier is?

I'd like to follow up on your case via email and could you please help me check the following details:

1. How often would the 5G internet randomly drop out?

2. Can you switch the network mode back to  "5G preferred" and save the following details when the Deco was red again:

  • Some screenshots of the internet settings when Deco was red, such as:

Wait for your reply and best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi David,

Thank you so much for your response.

The carrier is O2. Since the Deco device still has outdated carrier information (O2 is recognized as e-Plus or one of its sub-brands), I manually set the carrier settings, such as the APN, according to O2's official guidelines. I also had an O2 Business Service technician check all the relevant cell towers and the SIM card, and everything seems to be fine. Additionally, I tested the SIM card in a mobile phone, but the same issue occurred with the mobile SIM Card. The SIM Cards are both the SP´s  latest Version (V5).

The connection drops happen somewhat randomly—sometimes after a few minutes, sometimes after a longer period. I will switch back to "Prefer 5G" mode this evening and send you the logs as soon as possible. I will also create screenshots tonight.

Thanks so much in advance for the excellent support.

Jack

Hi, you can try to reply to # TKID250319605 and attach the modem log.

(PS: if the modem log is overloaded, you can share it via google drive)

Best regards.

  @Jack711

Hi,

I'm experiencing the same issues with the TP-Link BE65 5G – after some time, the internet connection drops (APN: internet).

I temporarily solved the problem by using the APN netpublic, which keeps the connection stable.

Notably, these issues only occur with non-public IPv4 and IPv6 addresses. With a public IPv4 address, there are no disconnections. However, with netpublic, I don't have IPv6 support, which is a drawback.

Best regards,

Chris

  @Chris_Bensheim

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your response and the tip! As far as I know, the "netpublic" APN is a paid option. However, I reached out to TP-Link support, and they actually sent me a debug firmware (I have to say, TP-Link support is one of the fastest I've ever dealt with!).

With this debug firmware, O2 is now correctly listed as the network provider, and for the first time, my connection has been stable—at least so far! The only issue is that the debugger program QWinLog doesn’t connect to the Deco. 🙈🙈🙈

I'll definitely give "netpublic" a try, though—it does have other advantages, as you mentioned.

Anyway, thanks again for the tip—I really appreciate it!

Best,
Jack

  @Jack711

Hi Jack,

no problem, you're welcome! 😊 Yes, "netpublic" costs a one-time fee of 49 EUR.

May I ask which firmware you received? I still have version 1.0.5 on my BE65 5G – maybe I should also ask for a newer version. 😉

Have a great weekend!

Chris

  @Chris_Bensheim  Hi Chris, it is a 1.6. debug FW... I think they´ll release a newer official FW soon... 😊😊

Cheers,

Jack

@Jack711

Same problem here!

I use Telekom as my internet provider, and the APN settings are totally buggy. If I save one manually, it completely deletes the default APNs. When I restart, the Deco thinks it's online with the newly configured APN, which it isn't, because it doesn't contain any valid values. The three default Telekom APNs are also completely outdated. Some of them are still called t-mobile and E-Plus. IPv6 is not working either. But since I use the same contract on my phone (just a multi sim) — and the same APN, I can verify that it should work.

My internet also drops for a few seconds when it changes the aggregation or cell. s.e.
