I had a look at a previous solution suggested on a different thread but It hasn't worked for me. I need to know if it's possible and all the steps to do it successfully.Screenshot

You've found the correct configuration guide for building WDS on your W9960.

You may try to use DHCP relay instad of disabling the DHCP server poited to to your main router IP address:

 

 

WDS is not a standardised feature and may or may not work with a particular main router.

  @terziyski I'd like to know if there is a tested working method for this type of router. Can't the guys at TP-LINK advise on this?

It’s possible to turn your TP-Link TD-W9960 into a WiFi extender, but it’s important to note that this model doesn’t officially support repeater mode out of the box.
