Model: Deco X50
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.6.1 Build 20241010 65389

Dear team,

After two of my old Deco X50 V2s failed, I ordered new ones and received Deco X50 V1s. These have been updated to firmware 1.6.1.

So far I have been able to use my TP-Link L2TP VPN network without any problems. After replacing the DECOs V2 with V3, it worked for a short time, but after the update it no longer works. I have carried out a complete reinstallation, the TP Link L2TP VPN does not work.

A connection via the OpenVPN access is no problem, but I would need the L2TP access.

It could be that the problem only occurred when DOH & DOT was activated, but this was deactivated again and was not activated again after the new installation (if that had any meaning).

Some information about the network, maybe the problem is here (and I don't understand it):

ISP: Dynamic IP
TP-Link DDNS is activated, it works with OpenVPN

Internal network:
192.168.1.1 router, same address range for the other devices (192.168.1.X)
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0

Network VPN:
L2TP client IP 10.9.0.11-10.9.0.20

Maybe someone can help me get my normal VPN access back?

Thank you!

Mat

  @MatDeus

Hi, Can I have the current firmware version of your Deco X50_V3?

"After the update it no longer works" Do you mean remote clients can't connect to the Deco L2TP VPN server? Would there be any error message?

Later, can you send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com (please add forum ID#755374 in the subject) with the following details:

  • A screenshot of the IPV4 page on the Deco APP.

Usually, it is supposed to public IP address, instead of a private or reserved IP address.

Wait for your reply and best regards.

  @MatDeus

Hi, Thanks for the update.

I noticed you mentioned the iPhone in the email and there used to be an announcement here:https://support.apple.com/en-us/100624

"To make sure that VPN client devices running iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur can connect to your L2TP VPN server, configure the server to truncate the output of the SHA-256 hash to 128 bits. Truncating to fewer than 128 bits will result in L2TP VPN failing to connect."

 If you have other OS clients, like Windows, could you please help me test whether the Windows devices can connect to the L2TP server?

Wait for your reply and best regards.
