Model: Archer BE550
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.1 2-241230 rel.20267

hi guys, background. we have down sized to a 2 bedroom bungalow and because I wanted an increase in IP's (Alexa) rather than link speed Ive gone for the Archer BE550 and im slowley adding to the number of IP's. I am coming across a number of issues so I hope I can get somw advice.

1) the signals dont like going through walls, as predicted 2.4ghz is better than 5 and where is the 6 ghz signal? 5ghz on its own drops out constantly but in MLO its more stable but at a low link speed. the smart conect is some what of a joke!

2) does anyone know how the signal from the router is spread, ie how much down signal if I put it in the loft (bypassing the walls)

3) is the signal strength greater from the sides and can the router be on its side (thinking about 2)

4) ive put a 802.11be card in my desktop but im thinking of puting the old wifi5 one back in and asking for a refund on this and the router

answers on a postcard please

You got a point but I thnk these are meant to stand in a tower position:

You can easily check that by using a Wi-Fi Analyzer or InSSIDer app to measure its wireless signal strength.

At least from a cooling stand point, I believe that this is its optimal position - you can test that as well.

Here's a guide on the topics related to your inquiry.

If you can't rely on the Smart Connect feature jsut disable it.

@terziyski thanx but not withstanding that this router has no external aerials i thought that it was logical to ask if it could be put on its side in the loft of a bungalow. from what i have gleemed is that it as 6 aerials inside, 3 each side at different angles. yes I have already turned off the smart connect.

@Tryingtolearn1 Could you please take a picture of the location of the BE550? If you don't want to post it here in the community, you can email support.forum@tp-link.com. Thank you.

As suggested by terziyski, you may test with a Wi-Fi Analyzer or InSSIDer app to measure its wireless signal strength. The signal signal or performance may differ in different locations and facing.
