Archer AX21,  an AX1800 WiFi 6 router

Ver 1.26

The router provided by my ISP is a GPON terminal for the ISP's fiber optic cable.

I want to plug my Archer router into one of the LAN ports of the GPON terminal router. Why? Because I like the archer router and it has very nice security. And my ISP requires that the fiber optic cable from the wall can only be e plugged into the GPON terminal router that they gave me.

when Indo the quick setup on the Archer, I select time zone. Then next screen asks me for "connection type" with options of static IP, dynamic IP, PPPoE, L2TP or PPTP.

If I select auto detect, it determine that "dynamic IP" is the best option. So then I click "next", and then on the next screen I enter the MAC address of the GPON terminal router. Next, the tp link page does a "connection test: testing the Internet connection it may take several seconds please wait".  After the long pause, I get this message: "no Internet connection. Oops. The Internet connection is not set up properly. Make sure all cables are properly connected. Click back to set up and verify that the Internet connection information is correct."

I have checked the cables and they are fine.

What am I doing wrong?

Should I select "static IP" instead of dynamic? If so, how do I get the specific parameters? It asks for IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, primary DNS. Are these parameters something that I would get by logging into the GPON terminal? I am able to login to it, but I don't know where I would get those parameters.

Best aprroach would be to contact your ISP and ask those questions.

They should advise you which internet connection setting to use and whether to copy the GPON MAC address or not.
