USB Drive attached to TP-Link Deco BE65, can I use it for Apple TimeMachine?
USB Drive attached to TP-Link Deco BE65, can I use it for Apple TimeMachine?
Hi all,
I'm using a big external harddrive connected to my new Deco. In this drive I've created a few partitions, and I'd like to use one of them with Time Machine on my Mac. While I can see the disk in the finder and access all the partitions, Time Machine can't see it for some reason.
Is there any setting or beta firmware that I can try to address the issue?
When I access my Deco app on my phone, under Advanced I do not see the section USB sharing I see in some screenshots

@Adex1Hi, Thank you very much for the feedback.
Can I have a screenshot of the "Advanced" tab on the Deco APP?
- By the way, what is the current firmware version of your Deco BE65?
Apple TimeMachine is not the major USB-sharing scenario Deco tries to cover. In other words, it can be used for Apple TimeMachine but the backup performance and stability can't be guaranteed.
Thanks a lot and Best regards.

@David-TP Hi!
my decos are all up to date:
here's the picture of the advanced page:
Can the issue be the fact that I'm not using a BE as primary? I mean I don't think so, it would be so silly

Thanks for the quick reply.
I think it should work but I'll double check with the engineer first.
For the BE65_V2, there is a new version for Deco BE65_V2. I think you can update to 1.1.5 first:
https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/download/deco-be65/#Firmware
PS: the IP address of satellite Deco BE65 can be found under device settings on the Deco APP. You could access its web UI via the IP address to update the firmware.
Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi @David-TP,
as I had the chance to try I tried first by setting one of the BE65s as main unit.
This has fixed both the issue with the firmware update not showing and the missing USB section inside the Advanced section

Everything now seems to be working properly but for some reason now that I've enabled TimeMachine, while my Mac can see the TimeMachine partition can no longer see the others, making impossible to use the media sharing feature as I am not able to copy content into it

I was able to access it using the IP of the BE65 where the hd is attached but I hope there's an easier way

Hi, Thanks for the update.
Were you trying to say that, on the Apple TimeMachine backup location, you can only see one partition but if you access the external HDD drive via IP address on the Mac, all partitions are listed?
Did you use to configure some advanced settings for TimeMachine on the Mac, such as HDD format/size requirement?
Wait for your reply and best regards.

@David-TP yes.
Before I had access to the USB section and I was able to enable Time Machine, I could see and access the network harddrive and all three partitions in Finder but TimeMachine couldn't see the partition I wanted to use for it. Now that I've enabled the TimeMachine, that is working fine, but my finder no longer sees the other partitions of the network hard drive.
If I access the HD using the IP, I'm then able to see all of them.
I made two videos, in the first you can see that once logged in the HD only the Time machine backup folder is shown, while the second shows that using the IP all three are visible

Hi, Thanks for the update.
I will check with the engineer first to see whether they have any other ideas.
By the way, just a simple thought, have you ever connected to the HDD directly to Mac to use the TimeMachine? I wonder maybe it actually detects the whole HDD as one big partition, instead of 3.
Best regards.

Yes, the Mac sees the partitions just fine when directly connected (that's how I created them) and everything works properly when the time machine feature of the deco app is disabled. Well, everything except TimeMachine
