Hi@AF63,
For slow speed issue, please try the following suggestions:
1. First of all, we recommend using the http://www.speedtest.net for testing speed accurately. Speedtest APP/CLI tools (https://www.speedtest.net/apps/) would be better.
Please send here the screenshots with test result.
2. Before testing speed, make sure your Laptop/Phone is connected to the 5GHz Wi-Fi network of the Range Extender, not the 2.4GHz one, not the host Router Wi-Fi network. It would be better to use a separated SSID on the Range Extender.
3. If the signal light on the Range Extender is red, please move the Range Extender closer to the host Router to receive better wireless signal. Put the Range Extender in open space instead of closet or cabinet.
4. Connect to the Wi-Fi network of the host Router, run a speedtest for comparison.

Agreed! Update with WPA3 and make Easy Mesh/One Mesh compatible with modems like T-Mobile's TMO G4AR.
Or make me buy a new, updated extender that's NOT TP-Link!
