Model: TL-PA9020P KIT
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

I've had these powerlines for a few years now.
Last night one of them died, no LEDs
Opened it to see if it could be a blow capacitor, instead I found that a component caught fire orblew

What could have caused this, and any way to prevent it happening, or actually starting a fire?!
I've always been concerned as these plugs always run hot.

Hi@techfro,

Electrical devices will generate heat while running. Usually it is acceptable that the device temperatures below 60°C (140°F).
If the device is working normally and the its temperature is within the normal bounds, then please do not worry.
Here are some usage tips for you:
    1. Put the device in a dry and open environment, do not cover it with any items.
    2. Avoid placing the device on top of or near any operating electronic equipment. Be away from devices like heaters or excessive sunlight.
    3. For routers, please use its original power supply.
If you have any issue like unstable connection/slow speed, and problem disappears after the device cools down, please contact the TP-Link technical support for more help.
