Model: Deco X50-5G
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.1.7 Build 20240809 Rel. 18610

Hey there,

I've just received my Deco X50-5G and had informed myself prior to buying it that custom APNs would be working fine. I set up the Deco, also added my custom APN for my SIM card, and while the internet connection is working fine, I'm only receiving an internal IP address with my carrier. The SIM card though has been assigned a public IP address by my mobile carrier and had been working fine for months in another router. I already checked for firmware upgrades, I rebooted and hard-restarted the Deco several times, also removed and re-inserted the SIM card, but all I am getting is an internal IP in the 10.xx range. The web interface of the Deco confirms it has the custom APN set.

Is there anything that would cause that with the Deco X50-5G, which maybe ignores some settings from my APN or similar?

Hi, welcome to the community.

May I know who your SIM carrier is?

Can I also have the model number of the other router you have tested?

If you can consistently reproduce this issue, please send an email to support.forum@tp-link.com(subject ID# 746314)with a screenshot of the detailed settings for this custom APN profile so that I can invite the engineer for further checking.

Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi  @David-TP ,

thanks for your reply. My carrier is o2 in Germany, and the model is the AVM Fritz!Box 6890 LTE V2 (https://en.avm.de/products/fritzbox/fritzbox-6890-lte/). And yes, I can consistently reproduce it. The SIM works flawlessly in the Fritzbox, but won't get a public IP in the Deco. So I assume there is no known issue of the Deco X50-5G with custom APNs in that regard?

All the best

  @ratze

Hi, Thanks for the update.

Yes, there is no known issue with the custom APN profile. I'll forward your case to the senior engineers to see whether they have any other suggestions.

By the way, have you tried to clone the MAC address of the Fritzbox on the Deco X50-5G to see whether it made any difference:

How to Configure MAC Clone on Deco

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi @David-TP ,

thanks for getting back, I already replied to your e-mail.

After spending two days trying to convince the router to give me a public IP address by deleting profiles, restarting, resetting etc., I finally bought myself a 5G router from a different brand, which worked out of the box with my custom APN and a public IP address, just like my previous one before I tried the Deco.

Thanks for the effort and trying to help. Since I just want to use the hardware, I opted for sending back the Deco and going with the new hardware.

Cheers

ratze
