WR840n not find fw upgrade and password change menu option in AP mode
Hi Guys!
I have a problem an WR80n router. I switch the device to AP mode. It works fine, but I want to change the admin password. I search it the System settings menu, when it place normaly, but I won't find it. And I won't find the firmware upgrade menu option too.
How can I change the admin password and Update the fw ín AP mode?
Thank you for the help.

Hi,
Even in AP mode there should be a System Tools menu that inlcudes the options "Firmware Upgade" and "Password".
If this menu does not exist, then maybe the router's configuration has got corrupted. In this case you should perform a factory restore (use the Reset button if the Factory Defaults menu doesn't exist) and then check again if the menu shows up in AP mode.

Hi!
Thans for you answer.
This is not an isolated case. I have configured several brand new devices in AP mode and these two menu items are missing everywhere.
I will upload a picture of the menu.

Are you accessing these devices remotely - I've seen this behaviour when I remotely login the device.
There's a device security mechanism preventing you from updating its FW remotely which could cause an issue.

Thank you for answer!
Yes I try it remotely access device. My colleague told me that he forgot to set a unique password for one of the devices. That's when I noticed the missing menu items.
Is there any way to access these menu items remotely?

There might be further ways to do it, but what I do to work around such things is to remote-desktop into a computer that is connected to the same local network as the device I want to access.

Yes, a workaround like RDP/VNC depending on your OS would do the job.
If you use VLANs in your network the computer should be in the same VLAN and subnet as the routers.

Hi!
I tried to access the WR840n AP mode routers from a local computer. Unfortunately the PCs are in different VLANs.
The end result is the same, password change and firmware update are not available.

I made a demo system where I can test this problem here on my desktop.
It really seems that if I log in to the router from a local network, the password and the FW update are available.
If I log in from another network, through a different router, these two menu items disappear.
Is there a way to disable this function?
