Can't connect to link mesh extender to virgin hub via Ethernet cable

Hi. Had virgin installed recently. I have a cabin 10mtrs from the House and have a cat 5 cable from the hub in yellow port1 on the hub. Install engineer said I just need to connect the cable into the WiFi extender into the Re330 unit in the cabin and I'll get the same signal strength in the cabin. Tether app can't find the extender unit in the cabin. Only power led lit. Any ideas?

Hi,
Before you can connect the RE330 to the Virgin Hub via Ethernet cable you need to switch the RE330 from "Range Extender" mode to "Access Point" mode.
If none of the Wi-Fi LEDs is lit, then there is no Wi-Fi, hence you can't use the Tether app.
If you see no way to switch the Wi-Fi of the RE330 back on, then you need to reset it by pressing the tiny "Reset" button. After that the Wi-Fi of the RE330 should show up as "TP-Link_Extender". Once you are able to connect to the RE330 again you can switch it to "Access Point" mode and then connect the Ethernet cable.

Hi. Set it up as you advised. Virgin in house 360+ mbps. In the cabin 14mbps?

In case you have set the RE330 to use the same network names (SSID) as your Virgin Hub, then make sure your client device is indeed connected to the RE330.
14 Mbps is more what I would expect if your were in the cabin and still connected to the Virgin Hub.
Given that the RE330 has an 100 Mbps Ethernet port you should end up with speedtest results of around 95 Mbps.

@woozle hi. Getting 25mbps on fast speed test. Virgin stream box needs 50mbps to work,😔. Do I buy a different tp link router with bigger mbps Ethernet port? Thanks 👍

Just to reconfirm, your setup is like the sketch below shows?
If yes, and if the Virgin stream box is located near the RE330, then I see no reason why it shouldn't get about 95 Mbps. Did you run the speedtest on the Virgin stream box itself or on some smartphone or computer?

Hi.yes the setup in your picture is what I have. I ran the speed test on my phone on my mobile. There are a number of cat5 ports on the virgin hub. Have I got the the in the wrong port?

You can try another port on the Virgin Hub, but it shouldn't make a difference.
I just tested your scenario with my own RE305 again and I could easily reach 94 Mbps via both, a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection.
In case you did set the network names (SSID) of the RE330 to be identical to those of the Virgin Hub, then I suggest for testing purposes you temporarily change them something else, so that we can be absolutely sure you are connected to the RE330 when performing the speed test.
While you are in the Wireless Settings menu of the RE330 I recommend you also change the "Channel Width" options from "Auto" to a fixed setting of 40 MHz and 80 MHz, like shown in the screenshot below.
