Connecting EAP225 outdoor with DECO E4R
Wednesday

Hi. I currently have a DECO E4R mesh system that includes a DECO M3W unit.

The main DECO is connected to the router via network cable.

I have now purchased a EAP225 outdoor unit to improve the WiFi signal strength outside.

It seems that the DECO and EAP can not function on the same mesh.

What would be the best setup? Should I connect the EAP directly to the router or to the main Deco?

What will be the advantages / disadvantages of the setups and will the EAP then function as a separate network?

Anny advise will be appreciated.

EAP series cannot Mesh with Deco. You will need to run an Ethernet cable from the EAP to one of the Deco nodes, or Use Powerline adapters (not very stable).

Only Deco X50-Outdoor can truly Mesh with Deco, but to be perfectly frank, E4R are End of Life now and lack support. The E4R are slow and Ethernet is limited to 100mbs.

Probably better to replace E4R with X50 (though even X10 would be 1000% better) and add X50-Outdoor.

@SteveWex Thank you for the response and information. Perhaps it will be a beter option to chuck out the DECO E4R's and rather get another indoor EAP unit and create  a mesh.

You will lose seamless roaming by trying this. Basically you will lose true Mesh and all the usefulness it brings.

As I outlined above "Probably better to replace E4R with X50 (though even X10 would be 1000% better) and add X50-Outdoor."
