Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.6.2 Build 20240718 Rel. 69205

Hi have 3x Deco s4.

i had previously set them up as a router, Ethernet into the ISP as modem only, but only getting around 90mbs. When setting the ISP router up as factory I'm getting 500mbs.

is there a specific way to set these up?

I am using a new cat5e cable, but tried a few others.

if I were to set them up as a access point instead, what's the best way?

To run Deco in Access Point mode, you will need ISP modem/router running in router mode (usually, default mode). Connect Main Deco to ISP modem/router by Ethernet cable. Configure Deco mesh to run in Access Point mode: Switching a Deco to Access Point (AP) Mode

Turn off ISP router's WiFi to avoid interference with Deco mesh WiFi.

Thank you for your response. That’s actually how I’ve set it up, which is useful to know. The issue I’m seeing is, I’m only getting max 100mbs (avg 90mbs) through the deco, but if I disconnect then all, and run purely through the ISP router I’m achieving no less than 350mb, Ethernet 500mbs

When you get speed around 100Mbps from Deco mesh, that usually points at Main Deco connecting at 100Mbps instead of gigabit to ISP Router. You said you tried different cables, but it is still the most feasible explanation. In Access Point mode all traffic throttling settings are disabled in Deco mesh.

With some Deco models you may see "Abnormal WAN speed" message in Deco app. If you do, that confirms Main Deco connects at 100Mbps to ISP router.

The only thing I would suggest is disable 2.4GHz in Deco Main Network. This will leave 5GHz, and any device connecting to Deco will run on 5GHz. Do that for testing purposes, run speed test after. If still 90-100Mbps, there must be something with link between Main Deco and ISP router.
