I have a Microsoft Surface tablet with a TP-Link USB Wi-Fi receiver (AC1300) connected.

 

I want it to resolve a Zeroconf service running on our WiFi network. This service is announced using mDNS packets by another device using the same WiFi. These mDNS packets are successfully received by multiple other devices on the network.

 

I installed Wireshark on the tablet, ran it on the WiFi interface of the USB dongle and filtered for protocol mDNS. I see only the mDNS packets sent from the device itself and no other mDNS packet. This prevents me from resolving the service.

 

I have attempted the following on the device, none if which helped:

  1. Ensure no power saving measure is turned on

  2. Turn Wi-Fi on and off

  3. Disable and reenable the Wi-Fi chip

  4. Change the registry key Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters\EnableMDNS to 1

  5. Add the registry key at Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\DNSClient\EnableMulticast set to 0

 

I can provice Intel SSU exports and txt files with most of the results from running `netsh wlan show all` (truncated for brevity) if needed, I am not able to upload .txt files to the post though.

 

I would really appreciate any help or information on this topic. For us, consistency in resolving the service over Wi-Fi is key to our product.

Hi, welcome to our community.

You may choose Private Network instead of Public Network under Network settings for a try.

If it does not help, it is more suggested to check your Windows settings.
