Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20241009

I started using this product since August 2024, for the convenience of building a small-scale shophouse business network easily without cables. After browsing several online sites, my choice fell on the Tp-Link Deco X20 product (which I got version 3.20).

The first day I used this device was very bad, yes the signal was strong, it could reach between floors, but the connection was bad, even only 3 connected devices could not connect to the internet.

I thought there might be a setup error, because it was my first time using this device, but after I saw various tutorials available online, there was nothing wrong, I had done the standard settings correctly.

Until finally after a week later I decided to go back to using the old way, yes .. by using a cable network. And for my laptop/smartphone connection I use Tl-Wr840n, not as strong as the deco signal, but the connection is much better.

Until now I have continued to try to maximize the capabilities of this Deco X20, I admit the signal is strong, but why is there always a bad connection problem?

You may think this only happens to 1 device, no.. not only 1 device, I bought 2 sets of 6 devices, I tried them all one by one and had the same problem STRONG SIGNAL BUT POOR CONNECTION.

Is there anyone else experiencing the same thing? And do you have a solution?

Some details about the device I got:
Model: Deco X20 (US)
Hardware Version: v3.20
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20241009 Rel. 76236 (Automatic Update)

Hi, welcome to our community.

Does the poor connection mean unstable connection? What is your exact network topology?

According to your description, you may refer to the guide to troubleshoot first:
The internet connection is unstable or suddenly stops working when connected to the Deco network?

It is also suggested to contact your local technical support for direct help.

Thank you and best regards.

The signal from Deco is very good, reaching all rooms, even to the upper floor and front yard, but even though the signal is good, the connected devices cannot access the internet.

The topology is like this; ISP Router -> Main Deco (Office) -> The rest can be seen in the following picture:

I don't know why this is, every time it is monitored via the Deco application, its position often changes.

In addition, there is a partition in the form of gypsum between the rooms, for example between the front area and the office area, meeting room, and boss's room.

Hi, thanks for your update.

Are your satellite Deco connected to each other wirelessly? The network topology I mean is how your network devices connect actually, not showing on the Deco app.

The connection changes showing on the Deco app means certain satellite Deco sometimes connects to main Deco, sometimes connects to another satellite Deco.

So how about all your client devices? If they work properly, that means your network connection is ok.

Thank you and best regards.

Thanks for responding and sorry if the answer I gave is not what you wanted, but at least you have a glimpse of how my deco is from the perspective of the application I have.

So, all the decos that are shown are using a wireless connection, that is a screenshot that I took in August 2024 to report before finally changing to a wired connection.

Currently, here is the network topology that I am using:

It looks like a tree topology and this is what I am currently using and it works well so far.

But before that, this was the network topology that I was using:

The main deco on the 3rd floor, is wirelessly connected to the first deco and the second deco.
The main deco on the 2nd floor, is wirelessly connected to the third deco.
And the main deco on the 1st floor is standalone.

Do you think this is a bad topology, so that the connection to the internet is lost?
