Firmware Version:

Hi. I have the Archer AX53, and want to upgrade it's firmware, as the current one is unstable (webUI keeps crashing while browsing management). It came with firmware 1.1.2 Build 20221019. The webUI shows hw as Archer AX53 V1, while the packaging shows hw as AX53(IN) V1.8

I'm in INDIA, and the local TP-Link support webpage has V2.8 as the version number for India, and doesn't have any new firmware available for it. Meanwhile, V1 has the "US" tag, and V2 has the "EU" tag. When contacted, I was shared the EU V1 version of the firmware by TP-Link tech support.

I've noticed that V1 version of AX53 firmware across different regions, have the same exact file sizes (and obviously same exact build numbers), be it EU or US.

So my question is, what should i look for while upgrading the firmware ? does the "EU" "US" tags matter ? is matching the hardware version (V1 in this case) enough ?

PS: This is a original TP-LINK router, mfg in December 2024

At least let me know if there's a way to identify the region of current firmware. If it's EU or US ? There's no IN firmware available anywhere.

Please ask your web admin to update the local support website. This reflects poorly on the brand. Some regions are updated regularly, while some are completely forgotten.

Hi,

When your AX53 is connected to the Internet and you click the button [CHECK FOR UPDATES], then what does it say? Just "Firmware is up to date"?

Also, is the full description of your router firmware exactly "1.1.2 Build 20221019 rel.33889(4555)"?

I haven't connected the router to the internet. I want to set it up before doing so (for security reasons). It's also the reason why i switched to TP-Link after being a lifelong customer of D-Link, as their newer models don't allow this

I'm guessing the digits after the build number are meant to identify individual [end] devices. Do they have any significance?

If the firmware version on your AX53 is not "1.1.2 Build 20221019 rel.33889(4555)", then your AX55(IN) might have a customized firmware, especially if it doesn't say rel.33889.

You don't need to connect the unconfigured AX53 directly to an Internet modem. Just connect the factory-reset AX53 to the LAN port of an existing Internet router. I can't see any security issues with that.

Based on the TP-Link community forum, the cloud service isn't always reliable. People have bricked their devices because wrong firmware was pushed over cloud. So, I'm not totally excited about updating that way.

Do you know what these values rel.XXXXX(XXXX) signify tho? Is it related to region ?

TP-Link is the highest selling router brand in IN. So i'm surprised that the local TP-Link staff is so terrible. From manufacturing with IN tag to, [as i mentioned] mismatched version number on the support website. It's all over the place.

BTW, are you from TP-Link ? Anyways, thanks for your time

I am not from TP-Link. Representatives of TP-Link have a  TP-Link  label next to their username. You can click through some of the threads on this forum and look for such users and then contact them directly by sending a message.

By the way, clicking on the button [CHECK FOR UPDATES] only searches for an available firmware update. If one is found you will still be asked whether you want to install it or not.

Hi  @asish17,

In most cases, IN version products will release the applicable firmware version accordingly. We also recommend that users give priority to the firmware released on the official website of their region.

However, a few models can use firmware from different regions. If a product is not only applicable to a certain region, the firmware released in your region will be the US version or EU version.

It has been confirmed that Archer AX53 V1 in different regions can share firmware. We recommend you try our newly released firmware: 1.3.1 Build 20241120 This firmware also adds many new features, which can bring you a good experience.

If you cannot access the webUI normally, please try different browsers and clear the browser cache. You can also compare whether Tether APP can manage Archer AX53 normally.

The hash values for the same build number (having identical numbering and file sizes) of firmware for EU & US don't match tho. Why's that ?

Thanks for the response
