Hi,

 

I have the following scenario:

 

  • Fibre broadband router with confirmed 1 Gbps speed connection in my home.
  • 3 metre CAT 6 cable connection from routher ethernet port to Powerline Adapter - AV 1000 (TL-PA7017  UK/4.0)
  • 1 TP-Link AV1000 powerline adapter receiving unit a short distance away in a different room
  • Established connection between both TP-Link devices is approximately 400 Mbps in both directions
  • Yet, when I run a speedtest (www.speedtest.net) I am only seeing 103 Mbps download and 106Mbps upload (upload speed limited at max 100 mbps by Virgin Media) for the PC connected via CAT 6 to the receiving unit. PC's network card is 1000Mbps enabled and capable.

 

I can't find any firmware upgrades for these units and if I do, they fail on upgrade attem[pts.

Using version: 3.2.4_701E14_190426_901 presently.

 

Any thoughts or sugestions on how to improve speed?

Hi  @ConnorP,

If you're experiencing low speed issues when connected to a TP-Link powerline device, there are several potential factors and troubleshooting steps you can take:
    1. Check powerline adapters' placement: Ensure that the powerline adapters are plugged directly into a wall outlet and not into power strips, surge protectors, or extension cords. 
    2. Test different electrical outlets and move them into the same room for comparison.
    3. Check powerline rates between the powerline devices via tpPLC utility/App, you could refer to this FAQ to understand the difference between powerline rate and actual internet speed: Explanation about the Powerline Rate and Actual speed of the Powerline Adapters

Hi @Joseph-TP Thanks for getting back to me. I have set the equipment up correctly and am unable to move the PC to a different room to check there. But with a powerline rate of 450 Mbps, you are in essence saying that my actual internet connection speed can only ever reach 30-35% of this figure? Given that information, why are these devices named and marketed as 1 Gbps ?? The maximum it could possibly ever deliver in optimal conditions is 300-350 Mbps Can you advise if there is a firmware upgrade available for these devices, over and above the version number stated in my OP? Thanks.
