Wi-Fi extender Ethernet connection

I have had an Ethernet cable run from my router in my house to my garden office. I paired the extender with my router then took it to the garden room, plugged it into the power and connected it with an Ethernet cable into the new Ethernet port that feeds directly into my home router so it's hardwired basically. The wifi light is red. My smart phone shows the _ext version of my wifi but when I log in I'm not getting wifi. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Hi,
If you want to connect the RE700 to your router via Ethernet cable, then you need to switch it to "Access Point" mode.
Below is a page out of the official User Guide for the RE700. For further details just download the whole User Guide from www.tp-link.com.

Wi-Fi extenders can boost connectivity, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Connecting via Ethernet is often the best option, as it reduces interference, improves speeds, and ensures a more stable connection, especially for streaming or gaming. And if you're waiting on a package, you can alwaystrack LaserShip package tracking for peace of mind. Make sure your extender supports Ethernet backhaul, and simply connect it to your router. If it has Ethernet settings, check those for optimal performance. This setup often works better than relying on wireless connections alone.

A Wi-Fi extender with an Ethernet connection can be a game-changer for improving network stability and speed. If you're using an extender with an Ethernet port, are you looking to set it up as an access point (wired to the router for better performance) or just using the port to connect a wired device? Some extenders support "Ethernet backhaul," which can significantly reduce latency compared to a purely wireless setup. Also, not all extenders handle switching between Wi-Fi and Ethernet seamlessly—have you noticed any connectivity drops or speed inconsistencies? Sometimes, troubleshooting network hiccups feels as unpredictable as LaserShip tracking
