Model: Deco X80   Deco X20
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.2.2 Build 20240827 Rel. 43631

Mesh Network Hardware Details:

  1. 3x Deco X80 (Main Device) - 1.2.2 Build 20240827 Rel. 43631
  2. 1x Deco X20 - 1.5.3 Build 20231227 Rel. 62097

ISP Details:

Globe Telecom Inc. (GMCR, INC) - Philippines

Issue:

I have a router-modem setup wherein the ISP-provided modem is configured to be in PPPoE Bridge Mode. The routers, of course, are the 4 Deco devices I have which make up the mesh network, with the X80 being the main device connected to the modem. The PPPoE credentials are configured and stored with the Decos, along with an AdGuard private DNS Server set for both DHCP and Internet Connections.

Just a while ago, I tried activating the ISP's IPv6 configuration, which worked successfully in the modem. I was able to obtain a working IPv6 address, and was able to see it fully working in http://test-ipv6.com/ through a direct connection with the modem. The Modem's setting for IPv6 are as follows:

  • Prefix Acquisition Mode: DHCPv6-PD

  • IP Acquisition Mode: Automatic

To match it with the Decos, I opened the app and set the following settings under Internet Connection:

  • IPv6: On

  • Internet Connection Type: PPPoE

  • Sync IPv4 Account: On (If it's off, it doesn't work)

  • Get IPv6 Address: Auto

  • Prefix Delegation: On

  • DNS Address: (The AdGuard Home Servers)

  • Assigned Type: DHCPv6

My problem is that once I activate these, it would only work for a few minutes—enough for me to test it and see that it's actually working—and then my mesh network would intermittently disconnect and reconnect my devices. The connections would span maybe a few seconds to a minute at most, then disconnect, then reconnect again, repeating the entire process. I can't even access the router at all, nor use the internet. It's disruptive.

To end the problem, I had to manually restart the router by unplugging the main unit, then using the first few minutes of stable connection to turn off IPv6.

I've seen in another thread to turn off IPv4 Account Syncing, and to manually input the PPPoE credentials instead, but that wouldn't work. If I do that, the IPv6 just wouldn't work. It needs to be syncing.

I'd love to hear if anyone's experiencing something similar, and maybe a technical resolution to this problem.

Thanks all!

  @dudeparebro

Hi, welcome to the community.

May I know the model number of the ISP-provided gateway?

Are you able to constantly reproduce this issue?

I don't have any more suggestions and would like to forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance.

Please check whether you can receive my email later.

Best regards.

Hi @David-TP, thanks for the response!

As an update, I discovered that turning Account Syncing off does still result in an IPv6 address, but only after a while. I think it shows up around 30 minutes after. However, when it does show up, I noticed that internet connection drops or slows down, but not the direct connection to the router as was happening before. At this point, Deco seems to also be having a problem obtaining an IPv4 address.

The modem's model is a Huawei HG8145V5, if that helps.

Thanks!

Hi have you tried to set "Get IPv6 Address" to "non-address" and "DNS address" to "auto"?

BT Full fibre 500, 1x X60 V3.2 in router mode and 1 x XE75Pro V2.

@klipse I just tried. setting to Non-Address. Didn't seem to do anything. I have a custom DNS with AdGuard, so I doubt changing my DNS would yield any better results, and I'd rather use that DNS anyway.

@dudeparebro I suggest trying, for the IPv6 Assigned Type: SLAAC+RDNSS.
