Early Access Archer AX53 & AX58 V1 Supports EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul, WireGuard VPN, IoT Network, and More
We’re excited to announce the pre-release of the Archer AX53/AX58 V1 firmware update, version V1.3.1. This update introduces a host of new features, performance enhancements, and security improvements for a smoother and more reliable network experience. Below is a summary of the key updates.
This Article Applies to:
Archer AX53 V1
Archer AX58 V1
New Features and Modifications:
-
EasyMesh Ethernet Backhaul
The new firmware introduces full EasyMesh support, enabling seamless integration between multiple devices for consistent coverage across your home. The addition of Ethernet Backhaul ensures more stable and faster connections by allowing mesh nodes to connect via wired networks, alleviating congestion on Wi-Fi bands and improving overall network performance.
-
VPN Client and WireGuard Support
This update adds VPN client functionality with the inclusion of the WireGuard protocol, allowing users to set up and manage their VPN connections directly from the TP-Link router. This enhances privacy and provides faster speeds for your internet browsing.
*Note: L2TP/IPSec client support is not included.
-
IoT Network Segmentation
A major addition to this update is the IoT Network feature. This allows you to manage your smart devices more effectively by isolating them from the main network. This improves both the security and performance of your network, keeping your primary network efficient and less congested.
-
Local DNS Server Configuration
With this update, users can now configure local DNS servers directly in the WAN/Internet settings page. This flexibility allows you to select DNS providers that best suit your privacy and performance needs, bypassing default ISP settings. This can result in faster browsing speeds and enhanced security.
-
Advanced AP Mode
AP mode now includes a range of advanced features, such as wireless scheduling, access controls, and enhanced device management. This gives users more flexibility to control their network setup, allowing for easy configuration of security settings, parental controls, and device monitoring, even in access point mode.
-
Flow Control Switch
For advanced users, a new Flow Control ON/OFF switch has been added under Advanced > Network > LAN > Flow Controller. This feature allows more granular control over network traffic management.
-
More Enhancements
- Enhanced device stability.
- Enhanced device security.
- Improved the accuracy of client identification with Fing Integration.

@shawnshawn You are welcome! I am glad finally Tp-link accepted my VPN Client feature request for AX53 V1.
long story, not only posted a thread at tplink community, I also contacted TP-Link global support on last October 2024 and the good things R&D team approved my request after long consideration.
I hope the official release later even better than this pre-release firmware.
Because in my opinion this pre-release still missing some important features such as DoT/DoH and Eco Mode.

Hi, First of all, thank you very much for this amazing pre-release firmware, I hope that the release will come soon.
I installed the firmware, the router works fine, but I have some troubles when I try to create a new WireGuard VPN Client profile.
I'm not able to create it because the UI continuosly block me saying that the Server Address has an invalid format.
I introducing something like this: 172.111.222.33 What am I doing wrong?
I already used these wireguard profile information many times to connect to my WireGuard provider.
Thanks in advance.
OaicStef
UPDATE:
I made it work, using the CIDR notation so using the same example 172.111.222.33/32 it worked.
As I suggestion I would add some place holders in each field to be filled in with an example, in this case 1.2.3.4/32.
Also, maybe if a simple IP for instance 1.2.3.4 is provided the default behaviour could be to use 1.2.3.4/32.
Great job again.
Cheers.

I really need the EasyMesh in AP mode as controller feature for the AX53. Is that currently on the roadmap?

Hello !
Did the Wireguard Server feature got tested for AX53 V1 ?
I have a very weird behavior when I try to setup the Wireguard server. Indeed, after the usual easy configuration and the profile export, my client apparently connects (It shows in the connection tab), but I can't reach anything from the client (at least it can't load any page, wether local pages or on the internet). But meanwhile, in a very weird manner, it looks like it can ping local and WAN ips when I try to do so from a cmd in my windows client or from pingtest app in my android client. Something to also note is that the pages I try to load always look like "they're trying to load something", but finally don't.
Thank you to help me if you're able to reproduce this behavior.

Hi,
Just for your information, the WireGuard server works fine for me with firmware version 1.3.1 on the AX53 V1.
By the way, have you set "DNS Enabled" to on or off in the WireGuard server settings?

Hey @woozle and thank you for the reply !
To be honest I've tested many settings, including with DNS enabled and disabled. During my last tries, I left it enabled. I've also tested with different values for the MTU etc.
By the way, tring to ping "google.com" domain works while using the client profile even though I can't reach a single page or start a speed test.
The behavior is so weird, I don't understand. And my ISP keeps telling me nothing's blocked from its side. Also I checked that I wasn't behind an ISP CGNAT and I'm definitely not.
Other weird example, while connected, the speed test app loads during a long time and generally shows me my home network provider's name but can't start sthe actual speed test.
Here are a few screenshots of what I'm talking about. This is so disconcerting to be honest.
Thank you for helping, it's really appreciated :)
