Model: Archer AX23
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.0 Build 20230725 Rel. 56344(4555)

hello all,

My home network setup is fairly simple

FIBER MODEM -> AX23 (WAN using DHCP)

Test 1

When I directly connect to the modem over an ethernet cable I am able to get speeds of upto 900+ mpbps up and down on a gigabit fiber. This should be the expected behaviour since it is a gigabit connectivity

Test 2

When I connect the Cat cable from the modem to the WAN port on AX23 and connect the same laptop on the LAN port to run the speed test; throughput drops to ~93 MPBPS for both up and down

Test 3

Finally when I connect to the wireless 5g channel and repeat the test the throughput is hovers around the 84 MPBPS for download and 94 MBPS for upload. The laptop is in close proximity to the router with no physical obstruction

I thought that the AX23 has a gigabit port and also support speeds of 1201 Mbps on the 5 GHz channel. Hence Test 2 and Test 3 should have been very close to results of Test 1 results. There is no special configuration on the AX23. It just uses the family shield DNS servers and DOES NOT have any QOS configuration

I have summarized the results in a simple image

Am I missing something obvious. Could you please help me rectify the problem

Thanks

anand

I have been scanning the forums and it looks like I am facing the unexplained "capped at 100 Mbps" bug. Except for one guy who figured out if was his cable, there isnt much. I have checked my cables and they are cat6.

I also checked the AX23 negotiated ethernet status and all points to 1000Mbps.

Still confused where the issue could be.

thanks

Hi  @araman,

Here are some tips which might improve the speed of your Archer Router:
    1) If Ethernet speed is slower than expected, please try different Ethernet cables (CAT5E or above) on the Router.
    2) Disable QoS, please access http://tplinkwifi.net and go to Advanced >> QoS to disable it.
    3) Disable Parental Control, please go to Advanced >> Parental Control to disable it.
    4) If wireless speed is slower than expected, please go to Advanced >> Wireless Settings to change the 5GHz Wi-Fi channel, you may try different channels to find the best one for your environment.
    5) Disable SIP ALG and UPNP, please go to Advanced >> NAT Forwarding >> UPNP to disable UPNP, go to Advance >> Security to disable SIP ALG.
    6) Try a few other speedtest servers, other servers might reach better speeds.
    7) Reset the router and configure it again.
