Model: Deco S7   Archer MR600
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version:

Hello, I am thinking of upgrading my Archer MR600 to a 5G supporting router because mobile towers around our house now are getting upgraded to 5G.

The reason is of course faster down and upload speeds.

Todays setup

I have an External Pyonting XPOL-2 5G antenna connected to my existing MR600. This is wired connected to my main Deco S7 mesh system with 2 other satellites. This Deco Mesh system works fine in the whole house.

My alternatives

Deco X50-5G

Archer NX200 (the cheapest)

Archer NX600 which is not available in Sweden yet but can be bought from abroad.

My question is:

Is the Deco X50-5G the best one for my existising Deco system?

But internet stability is also very important at home. I am a little worried about the NX200 because this is the newest product.

Hello, If something sthraighforward is needed, i'll go with X50-5G as there's already deco's around.

If a litlle bit of "hacking"/ "tempering with habits"/"experimenting" is allowed : i'll go with a second hand or low cost android smartphone with revision 11 at a minimum (tested with rev.14).

By using the "ethernet sharing" option you can feed your house and your decos with wireless 5G on ethernet using the relevant adapter. I checked the following as a low cost solution : https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0CWLB4DLR?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder_k0_1_7&amp=&crid=H0X30K7X6IZF&amp=&sprefix=usb-c+e  This is the way i connect industrial machines that need an update by building a simple ethernet network where it is located. Using ethernet, i can use firewall and other security stuff on the field.

The advantage is that you can use your smartphone charger (100Wmax) to keep it ready 24/7. Activating the battery protection option available on most of the android phones is a good idea here too. The smartphone batterie will then act as a tiny local UPS. Additonnaly by not using wifi, bluetooth, etc and keeping your phone clean as "factory clean and updated without apps" : the phone will stay cool and will wear out less. very low end phone with low memory, cpu and ram will do.

This make the solution low cost and you'll not pay good money trying to follow an everchanging telco norm (3G, 4G, 4GLTE, 5G, 5.5G, 6G, 7G, etc). Adaptation to telco change will be easy without buying a new telco-router each time ! There's another contractual issue you'll avoid : smartphone data subscribtions are sometimes cheaper that 5G-network appliance subscribtions. And the teco company will not be able to detect that this is a fixed base installation as it will only see a smartphone. Associated restrictions will not be applied to you.

The only caveat i found is that the phone shall not go to sleep by itself and disconnect. Some do, so do not. But it can be worth a try.

Regards, Eric.

Hi, I just forgot to state that i already checked the smartphone solution with a X50 configured in router mode. both in IPv4 and IPv6. (no funding available to compare with a X50-4G/5G/etc).
