Below in this guide is shown examples of "Router mode" and "Access point mode":

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/3484/

It doesn't show the setup I intented so before I start wiring I'd like to be sure.

Below is my idea:

Inside:

INTERNET --- MAIN MODEM ROUTER --- Main Deco X50

Attic/Outdoor:

PoE-SWITCH in attic powering several X50-Outdoor (depending on coverage it will be 2-3 in attic and 1-2 outside). The X50-Outdoors would therefore not have any internet connection through the switch but only wireless/mesh to the Main Deco X50.

Would it work or will the PoE switch in attic somehow react havoc to the wireless/mesh connection between Main X50 and the X50-Outdoors?

Why I want it like this?;

It would be easier to power the X50-Outdoor in the attic/outside via PoE from the PoE-Switch than setting up numerous new 230V outside outlets. I only have to setup one single 230V outside outlet for the Poe-Switch (outlet and PoE-switch will be in a sealed cabinet in attic).

Right now I have Deco M9 which works fine but I no longer want to look at the Deco power adapters and cables + I want better coverage outside.

The room where internet runs into the house was totally renovated 2 years ago so I would prefer not to install a new cable between Main Deco X50 and PoE switch. I no longer want to look at wires running outside wall from floor to ceiling + wife would consider killing me if I start grinding the walls of renovated rooms :)

Hi, welcome to the community.

Do you plan to use the following layout:

The 4 satellite units could be powered by the same POE switch but it is not suggested since it is likely to create a network loop between the Deco Mesh units. The satellite Deco X50-Outdoors might decide whether to wirelessly connect to the main Deco or establish an Ethernet Backhaul with other satellite X50-Outdoors.

Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi and thanks for the quick reply!

The schematics you are showing looks like what I had in mind.

If I understand you correctly then my intended setup is not recommended since the satellite X50-Outdoor might create a closed loop with no internet connection?

I have a crimptool for the connecting plugs (AJ45 if I remember correctly) and a lot of CAT6 cable in stock. I bought it a few years ago for previous house project because we needed cable connection between 2 floors.

Could I perhaps make cables where I only crimp the wires for power into the plugs? Would it work only transferring power via ethernet cables to X50-Outdoor satellites or create another error?
If yes => Which color wires (at usual position)?

Hi, yes, you are right about the potential risk of network loop connection.

For the cables, I think you might ask for which colors of the pinouts for POE, such as:

https://community.ui.com/questions/POE-pinouts/e3ddbea2-a9f3-497f-8ca4-fc584c846bc8

I'm not sure if there is a universal standard for the POE pinouts of different Ethernet cables but you could google or take the following link for reference:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet_physical_layer -Twisted-pair cable

Deco X50-PoE/Deco X50-Outdoor supports both Alternative A and Alternative B.

Alternative A: Supply power using the date line pairs 1/2 and 3/6 of the Ethernet cable.

Alternative B: Supply power using the spare line pairs 4/5 and 7/8 of the Ethernet cable.

Compared with making your own POE data-only cables, have you thought of adding a power extension hub(for example -Tapo P306) to add 3-4 more power sockets and use a PoE injector(like TL-POE160S) to power Deco X50-Outdoor individually?

Thank you very much and best regards.

Thanks again!!

Would be nice if TP had made a PoE injector with several ports (for PoE power), but then again the market would be too small - too few cases like mine :)
