Wireless extender restarts router

Having just purchased a WA850RE (ver 1.20) I believe I have it all configured correctly.
The device has connected to my wireless network fine (Thomson TG585v7 router ip of 192.168.1.254) but it appears that once any device moves out of range of the router to use the extender it causes the router to restart.
Have tried numerous ways to configure the extender, via wireless, cable and also manually to ensure of no ip conflicts and dhcp was disabled they have all produced the same results.
Is this a conflict of devices or have I got something wrong?
