Slow and unstable connection

Slow and unstable connection

Model: Deco
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

I've got 1000 mb/s internet connection and on main router high internet speed. Because we live in a big house with thick walls, we have a TP-link Deco mesh system for wifi. Main deco is a Deco P9 with PLC, with a direct cable connection to main router. Internet speed on main deco is good.

Connected to main Deco are 3 P9's (all with PLC) and 2 X10's (without PLC). These other Deco's are very unstable with internet speeds varying between 1 - 250 mb/s, and very often one or several deco's lose all internet connection. The P9's (with PLC) very often don't use their PLC function.

I've tried every standard solution, reset the system very often, moved the deco's, tested the system with fewer deco's (I started with 3 in total, but since connection was still *****, I added more deco's step by step), tried to improve results by linking 2 deco's with a cable connection.......

Please help, because it is very frustrating to have such an expensive system and still 1955-style internet connection.

Hi, welcome to our community.

As you said, your house is big and walls are thick, so the performance may be greatly influenced by that.

You may refer to this guide first and make sure all the Deco P9s are working under the same power grid.

And the article is for your reference:Improve Powerline Backhaul on Deco P9

Note: As your Deco P9s are using the latest firmware, there is no need to try beta firmware in it.

It is suggested to follow the troubleshooting guide to take some adjustments.

If that does not help, could you please share and draw your exact network topology for better understanding your situation?

Or you may contact local technical support for direct help~

@Marvin_S I already tried all of those steps. I gave up and installed a wired connection; a couple of unwanted holes in my floor, but at least it works. The PLC function of the P9 simply doesn't do what it should do (even when two sattelites are practically kissing eachother, the connection is slow).

Hi, it is pity that the powerline backhaul can not take its biggest effect in your environment. Apparently, Ethernet backhual can provide more stable and fast speed compared to wireless/powerline backhaul.
