Wifi thermostat can't see Deco E4 wireless networks
I'm trying to connect my Honeywell T5 Thermostat my wireless network but my wireless networks will not appear in the Honeywell Resideo App (ios).
My Deco E4 has 2 wireless networks:
- Main network: 2.4Ghz/5Ghz, WPA2 security
- Guest network: 2.4Ghz, WPA2 security
I can put my thermostat into pairing mode, connect to it with my phone via bluetooth, go through all the connection steps, the app shows all available 2.4ghz networks (I see multiple other 2.4ghz networks from neighbours.), BUT my networks will not appear.
I reached out to Honeywell and they shared these "best practices":
- Make sure the network is broadcasting a 2.4Ghz network unless using a T9 or T10/T10+ thermostat which can also use a 5GHz network.
- Best results are achieved if connecting directly to the primary home router signal – networks with multiple Wi-Fi source systems, signal boosters, or range extenders are the responsibility of the customer to ensure they are appropriately set for pass through routing. If these conditions exist, recommend the customer unplug any extra wi-fi repeaters, extenders, etc. until the Resideo device is setup and registered. Devices can then be powered back up and should reconnect automatically.
- Enterprise Business Networks requiring RAS, Guest networks, or networks requiring Web Portal authentication are not supported.
- We recommend WPA2-AES Network Security Protocol (also known as WPA2-personal, or WPA2-PSK) since it is the primary industry standard Wi-Fi connection configuration.
- WPA3 is not supported by our devices. We do not recommend any use of WPA2/WPA3-mixed mode currently.
- A DHCP enabled network is required. Static networks are not supported by Resideo. (DHCP reservations may assist if the network has a limited number of assignable IPs)
- Dual band networks ARE supported. While most thermostats will connect only to the 2.4 GHz network, this will be done automatically. There is no need separate the networks.
- Resideo App thermostats ADVANCED SETTINGS:
- Enable "Legacy Mode", or any setting that improves connectivity for older devices.
- Disable band-steering for any thermostats besides the T9 and T10/T10+ thermostats.
- Stateful and Deep Packet Inspection/Proxy services may affect connectivity / communication
- Only Standard HTTP/HTTPS ports are required. If a secure banking site can be reached via the home wi-Fi, all required ports are open.
- Make sure there isn’t a limit to the number of devices that can connect to the network, or a schedule that disables the wi-fi broadcast at certain times/ intervals.
- Resideo App thermostats use a persistent AMQPS connection on Ports 5671 and 5672, negotiated by a port 443 request.
- For some networks, security can be adjusted for certain gateway/switch ports to allow devices to reach the TCC or Resideo cloud.
- For some networks, MAC reservations can allow special access for devices to reach the TCC / Resideo cloud.
Here are the things I've tried to troubleshoot:
- Change security from "WPA" to "WPA/WPA2".
- Change band of Guest Network from "2Ghz" to "2.4ghz/5Ghz".
- Unplug 2 routers so only the main router is operating.
- Updated Deco firmware
- Ran Network Optimization tool in Deco app
- Change security from "WPA2" to "None". The network will then appear in the Resideo app and I am able to connect the thermostat to the network. This is obviously unsecure and I don't want to leave my network open.
I'm fresh out of ideas, and I'm not sure what other changes I can make in the Advanced Settings of the Deco App. Any help appriciated
