Model: TL-PA8030P KIT
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hello Support,
I am here to ask for help regarding a malfunction with my new powerline adapters.

I have 3 powerline devices that I am trying to connect to my home network:
- 2 x TL-PA8030P v3
- 1 x TL-WPA8631P v4 fw: 4.0.2 Build 20230817 Rel.58509

My network is provided by a TL-MR600 router.

The anomaly I am experiencing is that I cannot network all three powerline devices and have adequate speed.
As long as TL-WPA8631P and ONE of TL-PA8030P remains connected, the speed remains very high.

If I connect the second TL-PA8030P this one presents a ridiculous 11 Mbps speed.

As you can see from the pictures, the powerline with high speed is the one connected close to the router (and connected via LAN to the router).
The second powerline, on the other hand, has 11 Mbps speed whether it is connected near or far from the router.
I also ran the test by reversing the positions of the devices and got the same result.

Pairing was performed using the “pair” button on all the devices, one at a time.

Do you have any ideas as to whether I am doing something wrong? Could there be some incompatibility between the devices?

Thank you very much.

Hi  @ironmanc

Could I confirm with you that the speed you mentioned dropped to 11Mbps, is it the speed of TL-WPA8631P? Which unit would you set as the powerline adapter connected to the router via LAN port?

There should be no compatibility issues in the same 8 series, and as you mentioned, when a single TL-WPA8631P and one of the TL-PA8030Ps are connected, the speed will be very high. So we can rule out compatibility issues.

Now our focus is to locate whether the problem comes from a specific device or a specific location.

Let's call the fast TL-PA8030P unit A, and the slow one unit B.

For the two TL-PA8030Ps, have you tried to connect unit B directly to the router through the LAN port? Then remove unit A and compare whether there is also a slow speed problem when only unit B and TL-WPA8631P are connected?

If the speed is normal, then the problem is most likely caused by an unsatisfactory powerline environment. At this time, please put unit A in another location that is slightly away from the router and test whether the problem will occur after adding a third powerline adapter?

On the contrary, if the speed is still very slow, the problem can basically be judged to be from unit B.

If there are any updates, please feel free to give us feedback.

Hi @Joseph-TP and thank you for your reply.
In order to give you as much information as possible, I have performed a lot of tests.
I have several devices in my possession and I have created test cases and documented the measured speeds. I have not run speed tests due to lack of time and have only collected the data provided by the various tools.

If anything is unclear, please let me know.

One thing I would like to point out: I asked for support because I experienced very slow connections between TP-Link devices.

Happy reading :D

Legend

Router: TL-MR600

Powerline A: TL-PA8030. Mac: 9F

Powerline B: TL-PA8030. Mac: DF

Powerline W: TL-WPA8631. This device has the speed meter. Mac: B7

Powerline T1: Other powerline. Mac: 7D

Powerline T2W: Other powerline with wifi. This device has the speed meter. Mac: 28

Powerline S: Other powerline. Mac: 5E

GALILEIwifi from Router

GALILEO: wafi from Powerline T2W

SOCRATE: wifi from Powerline W

Test 1: TL-WPA8631 + TL-PA8030(A)

Result: All OK

Test 2: TL-WPA8631 + TL-PA8030(A) + TL-PA8030(B)

Result: B is the slow node

Test 3: TL-WPA8631 + TL-PA8030(B)

Result: All OK

Test 4: TL-WPA8631 + TL-PA8030(B) + TL-PA8030(A)

Result: A is the slow node

Test 5: TL-WPA8631 + T1 + TW2 + S

Description: I decided to remove both TL-PA8030P powerlines and add several other powerline devices from other brands

Result: All OK.

The devices involved have lower specifications and speeds than TpLink devices. So it is normal for them to be slower.

Test 6: TL-WPA8631 + T1 + TW2 + S + TL-PA8030P(B)

Description: added Powerline B

Result: all devices except (B) continued to function properly.

Test 7: TL-WPA8631 + T1 + TW2 + S + TL-PA8030P(A)

Description: removed Powerline B and added Powerline A

Result: all devices except (A) continued to function properly.

Test 8: T1 + TW2 + S + TL-PA8030P(A)

Description: removed Powerline W

Result: all devices except (A) continued to function properly. Powerline A seems to have increased transmission speed.

Test 9: T1 + TW2 + S + TL-PA8030P(B)

Description: removed A and added B

Result: all devices except (B) continued to function properly. Powerline B seems to have increased transmission speed.

Conclusions

I repeat that I have not performed speed tests due to lack of time.
From the results collected, some conflict would seem to arise in the following cases:
- when TL-WPA8631, TL-PA8030(A), TL-PA8030(B) are all together in the same network. [Test nr. 2 and 4]
- when TL-WPA8631 is networked with TL-PA8030(A or B) but the TL-PA8030 is not directly connected via LAN to the router. [Test nr. 6, 7, 8, and 9]

Is there any additional check I can perform?

Thank you and sorry for the long message.
