Model: Archer TX20U Plus
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 5001.15.129.0

Hi,

I have the Archer TX20U Plus USB adapter for a while now. From day 1 I have problems that I am trying to solve.

The device works perfectly if it is found by Windows 11 and connected to WiFi. So no problems then.

However, it can sometimes take minutes for the device to activate after starting up my laptop. I turn on my laptop, Windows is loading and sometimes the light on the adapter turnes on after a few seconds and there is a connection, but other times it takes minutes before the light turnes on and there is a connection (after logging in Windows).

I've already done everything. I have completely uninstalled Bitdefender, I have disabled the Microsoft antivirus and Firewall, I have disabled all services (except Microsoft), I have disabled all other software via the Autoruns program, but the problem still persists.

The same thing also happens when I am in Windows. When I remove the adapter from the USB port and reconnect it after a few seconds. Sometimes the light turnes on almost immediately, other times it takes minutes.

The USB port is good because I have a wired mouse and when I connect it to that USB port I always have a direct connection. Even if I take it in and out several times in a row.

What else can I do? Is this a known problem? This is impossible to work with. When I turn on the PC, I want Internet immediately and not want to wait for minutes.

Hi,

Does your laptop only have one single USB-A port?

By the way, if that USB port is an USB 3.0 port, then the mouse functioning properly doesn't tell much, because the contacts used by USB 3.0 (which the TX20U Plus will utilize) are completely separate from the contacts the USB mouse uses. To see what I mean just hold the USB plugs of both devices right next to each other and peek inside them.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad L340-17IRH 81LL003AMH.

It has:
• 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1
• 1x USB-C® 3.2 Gen 1
• 1x HDMI 2.0
• 1x Ethernet (RJ-45)
• 1x Headphone / microphone combo jack (3.5mm)
• 1x Power connector

Does that answer your question?

Okay, so your laptop has two USB ports the TX20U Plus will fit into.

Do you experience the behavior you've described (i.e. long delay) equally with both USB ports?

@woozle Yes I experience the same behavior in the other USB port. Also a long delay sometimes.

This is definitely not a known problem. I am not aware of anyone else reporting this previously for the TX20U Plus (or any other USB Wi-Fi adapter).

In case you are able get hold of another computer, then test your TX20U Plus with that other computer and see what happens.

If it turned out that your TX20U Plus shows the same problem when connected to another different computer, then you might want to think about a warranty replacement.
