Hi everyone,

I have an FTTP connection with the NTD in our garage. My main router is in the main room, and I'm using powerline to connect that NTD to the main router. That setup works well, with my main router as the Internet gateway, and its WAN interface got assigned a public IPv4 address from the ISP.

The networking is like follows: FTTP NTD --> TL-WPA7510 --> TL-PA7010 --> main router.

Wifi on the TL-WPA7510 is turned off, so it's working as a TL-PA7010, and when doing traceroute from my router, that TL-WPA7510 is invisible.

My main router could cover most corners of the house, with some dark spots in the garage, thus I'm thinking of having the TL-WPA7510 cover that. Is there a way to make the TL-WPA7510 my internet gateway?

Thank you.

Most probably this won't work for you but you could easily check that.

The only thing you should do is to turn on the TL-WPA7510 Wi-Fi and test if you have an internet access (both from TL-WPA7510 and from your main router).

The reason I believe this won't work is that the NTD cannot be used as a Layer 3 router for in-premises networking given your topology:

FTTP NTD --> TL-WPA7510 --> TL-PA7010 --> main router.

  @terziyski Thanks for the response.
If I just turn on the TL-WPA7510's wifi, the devices connected to that will try to get an address from ISP's DHCP server, and it either takes over the connection from my main router, or get a conflicting IP address, and both connections become un-usable.

The TL-WPA7510 itself also has an DHCP client, which tries to get an address from ISP.

In short, yes, it won't work if the TL-WPA7510 is working in its default mode.

However, my question was whether there's a way to change my TL-WPA7510 to work a router. From the ISP point of view, that TL-WPA7510 will be the only device from my side - i.e. the FTTP connection terminates at TL-WPA7510. My main router, and all devices connected to that TL-WPA7510's wifi will only have private IP addresses.

I think, hardware-wise, like the TL-WPA8630P, the TL-WPA7510 also have that capability.

PLC adapters can't work as a router.
